The Best Smartphones of 2009

With the year coming to a close we decided it was time to roundup the best cell phones of 2009. It was a year in which cell phone manufacturers seemed to announce a new cookie cutter cell phone every week, but we sorted through the diluted pool of smartphones and picked out the cream of the crop. From the Apple iPhone 3GS to the Motorola Droid we showcase the best smartphones of 2009.

Dude where's the Samsung Rogue in this article!!!!
  • Michael
The Samsung Rogue is not a smartphone. Verizon calls it an enhanced phone. That's their way to justify an additional monthly charge of 10.00 or 19.99 to download data. I love the phone by the way.
  • I had such high hopes for the Palm Pre....
  • I think the Blackberry Tour is pretty cool.

Surprised the Nokia N97 didn't make the list.
  • Muliadi Jeo
Actually, I think Nokia N900 should make to the list. It got all the hype and good response from the users.
  • Good call, we will add that one too.
  • @henryshelley
Why no N97? the N97 is a true smart phone and does more than any of these handsets...I accept the UI is poor in comparison to android etc. but c'mon; you have to be smart to operate the N97, and if you're smart enough to know how to get the most out of it, its far superior to any other smartphone. If you're prepared to compromise functionality for aesthetics then the Hero and iPhone are the pick.
  • yo
i don't really know much about this, but i think the point of a smart phone is that anyone can use it easily......even "non-smart" people like me,lol!!!!
  • Joe1229
    The enV 3 isn't a smartphone!!!
  • How is the Envy 3 not a smartphone?
  • Joe1229
It doesn't have the capabilities of a smartphone, trust me, and besides, it would be under Smartphones category on verizonwireless.com, it's under phones
  • jay brown
You are truly retarded joe1229, you can download apps that will view documents etc..
  • Joe1229
You don't have to be so mean about it, look on the website, it isn't a smartphone
  • Bill
He's right. I believe VZW refers to this as a "feature phone" aka still a dumb phone but definitely one of VZW's better dumb phones.
  • John Wayne Gacy
I guess insulting Joe makes you feel better about yourself. Have a happy holidays.
  • soulson25
is the my-touch from t-mo the same as the htc hero..?
  • Two separate phones. The Hero is on Verizon too, not T-Mobile
  • Murdock
where is the HTC touch pro 2?
  • Peeing in the Wind
You should do one on the smart phones that suck
Blackberry Storm is the winner hands down
  • otpradio35
i hate when random editors post blogs and just put anything...E71??? why?where is the touch pro 2 or the HTC HD2. You need to do more research.
  • dude
Storm 2 man it's smokin hot
  • Jeff T.
All are a distant 2nd to the iphone. Trust me, not a mac fanboy, just a guy that's tried the rest and knows the best. Sorry for the lame rhyme there. Seriously though, the iphone shouldn't even be discussed here. It is in a category by itself.
