GPS developer TomTom has announced a new high-end in-vehicle GPS receiver in the form of the TomTom Go 920 and Go 920 T. TomTom regards the Go 920s as its "flagship" models, featuring what the company describes as the "most complete" maps of Europe, the U.S., and Canada in its 4 GB of internal memory. The unit also features a 4.2-inch touchscreen display, TomTom Map Share technology enabling users to correct and update maps and share their changes with other users. The TomTom Go 920 is compatible with a separate RDS-TMC traffic receiver for up-to-date traffic information (requires a service subscription), while the Go 920 T comes with the RDS-TMC receiver in the box and a one-year service subscription.

The Go 920s also features voice recognition so users can input destinations and hands-free phone capabilities, along with a "Help Me" menu designed to give drivers access to roadside assistance and emergency services. The system also comes with a Bluetooth remote control so drivers can operate the device from "anywhere in the car" without having to touch the screen. (That’s great, but we can’t imagine fumbling around for a remote while driving is all that safe, either.) The unit also features an SD card slot for additional makes of media, an integrated FM transmitter for pushing audio to a vehicle sound system, and the unit should run for five hours on its rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

The TomTom Go 920s are due in the fourth quarter of 2007; the Go 920 will carry a suggested retail price of $599.95, while the Go 920 T will run $699.95.
