Toshiba opens up its MyConnect mobile Internet service to include a pay-for-user option where users pay $3.95 an hour only for time they're connected to the Internet.
Toshiba announced today that it’s expanding the company’s MyConnect Internet service to give users the option to pay only for time they’re connected to the Internet at a flat rate of $3.95 per hour. Called the Pay-for-Use program, the service entails a one-time $10 setup fee, but otherwise users pay only for the time they’re online, with no monthly charge if they do not connect. Connectivity minutes divided into one-hour blocks and rounded to the next full hour, billed to the user’s credit card.
MyConnect offers Internet access throughout the U.S. via wireless hotspots and wired Ethernet in Marriot and Hilton hotels, UPS Stores, Barnes & Noble bookstores, and other locations including rest stops, airports, restaurants, and brand locations, as well as through analog and (occasionally) digital dial-up. The Pay-for-Use program makes sense for infrequent travellers who don’t want to worry about making connectivity arrangements every time they’re on the go, paying monthly fees for access they aren’t using, or who don’t need to be online for significant periods of time while travelling. MyConnect is compatible with Windows 2000 or later.
