Triller is more than a music video app — it’s now a social network too

Triller - Music Video Maker: App Preview
Looking to add a video component to your favorite tune? You don’t have to scour YouTube for a music video — just create one yourself with iOS and Android app Triller, which first launched last July. But now, almost exactly a year later, Triller is much more than a music video making tool. It’s a social network too.

Updated on 8-13-2016 by Lulu Chang: Triller adds more social functions.

In its initial conception, getting started with Triller simply involved choosing a song — either from the app’s library or from your own music library — and selecting which part of the song you want to cover. Then, you record a couple of takes as you sing along with your favorite song. If you mess up the lyrics or go way off script, don’t worry. Triller lets users record an endless number of takes and customize the footage with one of the app’s 14 video filters.

Once you are satisfied with the material, the app automatically edits all the takes together using an algorithm that a professional editor would use to cut a music video. If you don’t like the way Triller pieced your takes together, you can simply press re-edit and create a brand new video. To delete a take, just slide your fingers to the left, so it won’t be a part of the video. When your music video is ready, you can save the video to your phone or upload it directly to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, and other sharing platforms.

But now, in addition to all these original features, there’s also Triller Famous. It’s a newer section of the app that draws attention to a curated feed of user-submitted videos. And it’s proven to be a popular new platform (within a platform). Over one million Triller users have signed up to submit their own music videos to Famous, according to app developer David Leiberman.

Thanks to Famous, you can seek out fellow Triller users to follow, or get followed yourself. It also allows for more discovery within the app, because who doesn’t like finding new, original music videos?

Leiberman, who developed Disney’s Frozen Karaoke app with Triller co-founder Sammy Rubin, said that he wants to make it easy for music lovers to create their own videos without any background in video editing. To make their idea a reality, Leiberman and Rubin enlisted the help of music video director Colin Tilley, the mastermind behind music videos by Kendrick Lamar, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, and others.”

“With Triller, you don’t have to be Colin Tilley to make a music video that looks like it was shot by Colin Tilley,” Leiberman said in a statement. “The app truly democratizes the music video creation process. Whether you’re hanging in the park with friends or an artist on tour, Triller makes it easy and fun to create great-looking music videos.”

You can check out some of the most epic Triller videos on the app’s Instagram account. If you want to star in your very own music video, you can now download Triller from the App Store here.

It’s not just you: the Apple Weather app is down
Cloudy weather showing in iOS 15's weather app.

Stop trying to force quit apps or restart your phone, it isn't going to help. It's not just you, Apple's Weather app is down right now. There were some sporadic issues yesterday, but it seems more widespread this morning.

Whether it's on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac -- the back-end service running Apple's Weather app seems to be having issues loading data. Sometimes the home screen widget won't work; other times you'll get one or two locations in your list to update, but not the rest. Other times it all looks good, but the hour-by-hour forecast details aren't working. That's frustrating!

You’ll soon be able to use WhatsApp on more than one phone
Two phones on a table next to each other. One is showing the WhatsApp logo, and the other is running the WhatsApp application.

WhatsApp, one of the most used messaging services in Europe and parts of Asia, is about to close a major flaw. As spotted by the sleuths over on WABetainfo, the company is planning an update that will allow the use of a secondary device -- including another phone or tablet. Currently, WhatsApp only allows phone users to link their account via its web or desktop clients.

The new feature is dubbed companion mode. Once it rolls out, you'll have a workflow that's quite similar to setting up WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp on the desktop. Rather than entering a number, you'll be able to scan a QR code with your main phone to log in to your existing WhatsApp account.
