UK iPhone Sales To Top 200,000 By Xmas

The O2 network is predicting good numbers for the iPhone and introduces an unlimited data transfer plan for users.

O2, the network that has the exclusive network franchise for Apple’s iPhone in the UK, is predicting it will sell200,000 of the handsets by Christmas, according to a report in the Financial Times. The phone goes on sale this Friday evening at Apple and O2 stores, as well as atretailer Carphone Warehouse.   The phone will sell at around $540, and will requite an eighteen-month O2 contract at $70 a month – thatretail price is a fair leap over the US, where an iPhone can be purchased for $399 after Apple introduced its $200 cuts.   Matthew Key, head of O2 UK business, told the FT that his company hadordered “hundreds of thousands” of iPhones. Some experts consider the 200,000 figure to be a very conservative estimate.   There is some good news for those potential purchasers, however. O2 has changed its data transfer policy for the phone. It had originally set a monthly cap of 200 MB a month. That will now be unlimited data transfers.
