Some Sprint devices are all but unusable in their carrier distributed configuration. My original Evo, the 4G with WiMax one may have had nearly - not quite - twelve hours of battery life with WiMax, BlueTooth, and GPS disabled riding in my pocket unused. After I swapped to third party firmware I started getting a day and a half easy. I got S-Off and switched to a better firmware, I estimate three days of standby unused, I'm not sure, I didn't leave it alone for that long but I know I got at least two.

My current Evo 4G LTE wasn't nearly as bloated from the carrier - they recieved enough complaints from enough people, it actually had a day and half of standby or so from the carrier. Getting S-Off and more up to date firmware than I can get from the carrier and I'm getting insanely long amounts of battery life.

All of this and I buy my apps from Google Play, Amazon, and the Humble Bundle.

As a consequence to this, more and more americans(because they are the most dependent on carriers) should switch to buying phones already unlocked.. Considering Jailbreaking tablets illegal is crazy.. You buy the device and you are not allowed to do what you want with it? There has to be a reform done considering this “piracy” thing as far as what it really means..

lol obviously you have no clue what it means to root/unlock your device doesn't necessarily mean persons intentions is to pirate software.

On android people use custom roms, kernels, scripts....ect to overclock and get most out of there devices and to remove bloatware that carriers lock into phone that take up resources.

In the US.

Though I'd assume the "no unlocking tablets" thing mainly applies to the iPad and other devices not running Android, as not allowing Android users to do that kinda flies in the face of the open-source nature of the OS. It's Apache and GPL dual-licensed, so due to the GPL being involved, it's actually against the license to revoke a user's right to modify Android.
