Versace to Launch Fashion-Chic Cell Phone

Fashion label Versace announced today it will design and release a Versace-branded cell phone this spring.

Iconic Italian fashion house Versace will introduce its first Versace branded mobile phone hardware in May. The Wall Street Journal reported today that Donatella Versace created this new mobile handset with French manufacterurs ModeLabs Group SA. Reports says the new Versace cell phone will retail for more than Christian Dior’s 2008 cell phone, which costs €3,500, or about $5,000.

“Before, brands couldn’t imagine that a luxury telephone was possible,” said ModeLabs Chief Executive Stéphane Bohbot. “Now, limited distribution and customized design have created a new interest for brands in telephones.”

The Milan-based fashion house says it will show off its luxury mobile device for the first time to select clients at a private showing during Paris Haute Couture week later this month. WSJ confirms that ModeLabs will be supplying operating system upgrades to customers of the luxury brand cell, so they don’t fall behind in these fast paced technical times.

  4. trendwatcher at 5:57pm 20th January 2010 Okay. this is a reply to Dang. When did Prada launch their phone? I never even knew these fashion phones existed until yesterday. By the way, Tag Heuer and Lacoste are also on the bandwagon.
  5. dang at 5:38pm 20th January 2010 Yup, and the Prada phone was one of the first full touch phones, before the iPhone even. In fact, i'd say the iphone looks similar to it. Here is the latest one (by LG) http://www.pradaphonebylg.com/main.html
  6. trendwatcher at 5:34pm 20th January 2010 Guess we have the whole retail spectrum now, from Dior cells going for $5000 (yikes!) to Target's new Net10 Unlimited phones for under $100 with an unlimited plan of $50 to match that low price. But back to the fashion brands. According to WWD, Giorgio Armani, Prada and Dolce & Cabbana have also unveiled cell phone ventures. Let the games begin!
