Windows Phone Marketplace hits 30k, growing at 2,500 apps per month

The Windows Phone 7 Marketplace now has more than 30,000 apps, up from 25,000 two months ago.

Despite losing marketshare to Android, iOS, and BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 continues to trudge along and developers are sticking with the platform. Since the beginning of July, the number of apps available for Windows Phone has grown by 20 percent, from 25,000 to 30,000. While this number is small compared to the hundreds of thousands of apps on Android and iOS, it’s starting to look significant. As WP7 builds up its armament of important, highly used apps, it should become a more attractive option for users.

Here are some other stats:

989 apps have been added in the last two weeks
75 percent of apps are in english
8 percent of apps are games
47 percent of apps are free
There are 8182 published app developers

Compare these stats to stats released by WindowsPhoneAppList two months ago, and there are already significant differences.

Mike Dunn at 8:23am 30th August 2011 I love WP7, but haven't switched due to it not having the same quantity or quality of Apps of iOS or Android. I'm going to have a tough decision to make in a few months when the new iphone, nexus prime, and new mango phones are out.

  1. Mike Dunn at 10:44am 30th August 2011 I used to spend most of my phone time playing games, but lately I've been doing more Netflix watching, which WP7 has, now I just need to see if they have HBO Go!
  2. Phil Winkel at 1:24pm 30th August 2011 I am running the developer preview of mango on my device. Bing maps and navigation has been greatly improved since wp7.0. I don't miss google maps on my android device whatsoever anymore :)
