Despite losing marketshare to Android, iOS, and BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 continues to trudge along and developers are sticking with the platform. Since the beginning of July, the number of apps available for Windows Phone has grown by 20 percent, from 25,000 to 30,000. While this number is small compared to the hundreds of thousands of apps on Android and iOS, it’s starting to look significant. As WP7 builds up its armament of important, highly used apps, it should become a more attractive option for users.
Here are some other stats:
- 989 apps have been added in the last two weeks
- 75 percent of apps are in english
- 8 percent of apps are games
- 47 percent of apps are free
- There are 8182 published app developers
Do these numbers get you excited about Windows Phone? Are you holding out for Mango?

I love WP7, but haven’t switched due to it not having the same quantity or quality of Apps of iOS or Android. I’m going to have a tough decision to make in a few months when the new iphone, nexus prime, and new mango phones are out.
I’m with you and weighing the exact same options. If Mango’s turn-by-turn and navigation is good, I may consider it.
I used to spend most of my phone time playing games, but lately I’ve been doing more Netflix watching, which WP7 has, now I just need to see if they have HBO Go!
I am running the developer preview of mango on my device. Bing maps and navigation has been greatly improved since wp7.0. I don’t miss google maps on my android device whatsoever anymore :)
