According to stats by MetroScore Scanner, the Windows Store has exceeded 35,000 available Windows 8 apps. The marketplace is currently adding about 415 new apps daily, an even steeper rate than the 362 apps being added each day back in November.
The official tally now stands at 35,167 apps for the new Microsoft machines, 22,000 of which are available in the U.S. According to The Next Web, Windows 8 started out with 10,000 apps on October 30, jumped to 16,000 apps by November 14, and reached the 20,000 mark on November 22. It’s also important to keep in mind that many of the apps are free, meaning that revenue is not growing at the same exponential rate.
As the first Windows OS to offer an app store, it makes sense for all the companies that had programs and software for old Microsoft computers to push to get their wares up in the most appropriate format for the new system. Growth for the marketplace has been on a consistently positive trajectory since the OS debuted in October. But not everyone has jumped on the bandwagon for the app store; Google said it will not be developing any apps for the Windows 8 computers.
Considering the dire predictions that faced Microsoft when the new OS came out, a rate of 415 new apps a day is reflective of the high level of interest developers are showing in the platform. If the store keeps up its current rate of new apps, the Windows Store will surpass 50,000 apps on February 1. Windows 8 has sold more than 40 million licenses so far, so it appars that Microsoft will begin the next year with a solid position.

I haven’t had a glitch, problem, or any issues running it without a touch screen yet…since launch.
Everyone just needs to quit bitching and learn something new and easier every once in a while. People hated on smartphones and now we all have them.
Right on Matt. I have had Windows 8 for about a month now. There have been some very frustrating times but I’ve worked through it. Just remember what our attitudes were when we went from just the old Windows to XP, then Vista and so on. Progress is tough but if you are unwilling to endure the learning curve, stay home and watch Dr. Phil. Personally I like the challenge of learning some new technology.
Happy New Year, be safe and smart.
None! Windows 8 sucks!
I have been using the New Windows for about a month now. The Panels are a bit different, but since I have the Touch Smart screen it does make it easier to navigate. I do get frustrated at times but it is just a learning curve. All in all I think it is going to work out ok. If you are thinking about getting Windows 8 just remember how it was going from the original Windows to XP, then to Vista and so on. Just another growing pain that eventually works out ok. I think Matt Wright is Right! Happy New Year Everyone…
Probably great for phones and tablets but then you don’t need the desktop, on the desktop or laptop it just looks silly…
all
It is just win 7, fucked up by the metro lego blocks…
It’s not easy, it’s stupid :)
I personally intend to avoid adopting Win 8 as long as possible
I’m a Mac guy but I would love to see Microsoft step up their game to keep competition going, I don’t want Apple to just get lazy on me.
HATE Win8, maybe for tablets, smartphones, touchscreens, but otherwise a huge PITA
Love it!!!
From what I’ve used/seen so far, it is very frustrating, I would actually say even more so than traditional Windows, even more glitches and freeze ups and now its really confusing to top it all off.
Marco Tramonte – Its a new OS for the desktop and phone. Of course we cover new products! :D
Is there anything worth checking out on Windows?
