In my search for a Samsung 17 inch monitor, I came across the Sony SDM-HS73 17 inch. Its colors were bright and the picture crisp in comparison to the NEC and Samsung monitors sitting next to it. I read that the pixel pitch was .264mm and the contrast ratio 500:1 indicating to me that it was of good quality. I bought it brought it home and compared the screen size to my old 19-inch CRT. The SDM-HS73 won in the size area! Setup was plug and play and I quickly tested out the internet, my screen savers, and my photo program – I was very pleased with the results. My husband will be purchasing one next.

This is an extremely cool piece of equipment! It’s not the cheapest or the best out there, but for my needs, it fits the bill nigh on perfectly. I pair this up with WinXP Pro for some gaming which it handles very well with it’s high response time and in Linux (several distros tested)it looks stunning. The viewing angles allow me to double this thing as a quality DVD screen and even a TV w/an appropriate tuner card/box :) Easy on the eyes, and the power bill, I’d give this a solid 9/10.

Bought this today for backup computer. May just use it now on primary! I’m not a serious game but it seems to handl Empire Earth great. No dead pixels out of the box. Running it on 1.4 Duron with 512GB sdram and Gainward Nvidia GeForce 2 card. See you can still run great LCDs on older machines. Sure don’t miss the old CRT now.

Got this for my wife as part of a Sony bundle, actually picked the Sony bundle over HP,Compaq, & Dell because we liked the monitor so much better than the others in the store. We don’t regret this decision in the least. Absolutely perfect for our uses, and now the kids want to use her computer for games, which never happened before. The styling doesn’t hurt either. Great monitor! Now she wants one at work too.

My monitor was only 3 months out of the box before it started malfunctioning. I was extremely pleased with it during that time period but then the monitor began flickering for 20 min (intervals got longer and longer) until the monitor warmed up and the screen would stop wobbling and flickering. They said that they would replace a part for me (which supposedly costs 500 cdn). They did so after 1 month of shipping to Vancouver and returned it. I got it back and the repair service scratched and chipped the polished plastic and paint of the monitor. I saw a stack of hs73s at the repair service. I asked what was wrong and they told me this series of monitors had plastic molding problems which cause cracks in all corners of the frame. I thought sony was a good brand until this experience! Don’t buy the hs-73..i hope that all other sony products are this crappy

Previous good experience with Sony products led us to consider this monitor. The picture quality is definitely better than many monitors on the market. However, we became sorely disappointed when it became necessary to mount the monitor on an articulating wall-mounted arm and we found that the Sony monitor has no standard VESA mount. In fact, is has no mount at all! For this reason it does not get an 8 or 9, but only a 5.

this monitor has never given me one single problem, and I bought this one over 2 years ago for $600. no bad pixels, outstandingly easy (auto-setup feature is so nice) and basically, i just don’t ever have to tinker with it. no pincushioning, adjusting…great monitor, great buy, i always get compliments on it’s looks. A+ sony. you rock.

I bought this monitor over 2 yrs ago. Might have had 1 dead pixel which was not very noticeable, other than that, this monitor rocks. Its great for gaming and general computer use.

I bought this monitor 2+ years ago and it is all but dead now. displays nothing but colors going from red to blue to black. had it tested at CompUSA to ensure it was not the video card. problem lies in the monitor and with power supply. not worth the 500 i paid for 2 years use.

I bought this monitor about 2 years ago, for 350gbp. I have not had any faults or dead pixels, but I have found it very poor in terms of performance in light conditions. I have tried numerous colour profiles and various different contrast/brightness/colour/etc settings on the montior and in the driver. None, seem to give me deep dark and high bright colours, when the ambient light in the room is quite high. Kinda annoying, considering there is much better technology and value available now. I don’t think even the very latest LCD technology is quite good enough yet, so I think I will wait some time before investing another 350gbp in a new screen.

Bought this monitor a few years ago…and it died about 13 monthes after I got it. Turns on and see the picture for about 2 seconds then the screen blanks. Don’t ever plan to get a SONY product again

I have had this monitor for years, I bought it when it was a rather new model and it has served me well. No dead pixels after years of abuse. I’m a gamer and I love this thing. I’m now planning on buying a new larger monitor to work with this monitor on my new machine, it’s not going anywhere.

Bought the SONY sdm-hs73 with the Vaio R vgc-ra820g. Very nice setup. The display is amazing. I use it for digital photography and the colors are sharp. Slim design and gets me plenty of compliments. No problems yet.

My monitor was great, no problems at all but since it’s going into it’s forth year when you turn it on you have to wait up to 15 minutes before you get a picture.. Green light but black screen almost looks like it has to warm up first and to take it in to have them look at it and fix it could cost up to $200 .. So before Warranty was up 9 out of 10 now..lol
