It’s been awhile since the directing team of Jonathan Dyer and Valerie Faris have done any movies. Specifically, it’s been six years since their smash-hit Little Miss Sunshine which won two Academy Awards and revived Greg Kinnear’s career.
After that wait, the duo is coming out with their latest film Ruby Sparks. Paul Dano, who played the son in Sunshine, is a young novelist who found phenomenal success early in his career. However, he now finds himself struggling with his writing. He finally makes a breakthrough when he creates a character named Ruby. His new character gets him writing again and he finds inspiration in her. However, things go off the rails when he finds Ruby (Zoe Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch a week later.
A few other faces of note in Ruby Sparks include Antonio Banderas, Annette Bening, Steve Coogan, and Elliott Gould.
Ruby Sparks hits theaters starting on July 25, though it will be on a limited release.
