The last time Scott Derrickson directed a movie (or made a movie at all, really) was the 2008 remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. He was also the writer-director behind the 2005 horror film The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
Derrickson is returning to the horror genre with the thriller Sinister. In this one, Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist who has moved his family into a new home. While unpacking, Hawke discovers a box of disturbing home movies that show other families being brutally murdered. As he investigates the movies, Hawke finds his family under attack by a supernatural horror.
Other faces of note in the film include Vincent D’Onofrio, James Ransone, and Fred Dalton Thompson.
Sinister is set to be released this coming on October 5.
