Arielle Kebbel will be a regular for season 2 of HBO’s Ballers

If you are a fan of Ballers’ sassy Sports Reporter Tracy Legette (Arielle Kebbel), we’ve got some good news for you. The actress has been promoted to a regular in season two, leading to speculation that she and Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson) will be getting even friendlier in episodes to come. Legette is Strasmore’s love interest and as such, could see a beefed up role as the series continues.

So far, the actress has appeared in six episodes of HBO’s new show, which follows an ex-athlete turned financial manager (Johnson) as he helps athletes navigate the trappings of sports stardom. Set in Miami, its blend of sun, sports, and sex is aimed squarely at the same demographic that made Entourage a runaway hit: young men.

Interestingly enough, Kebbel appeared on that show as well — but if you blink, you might miss her. Look closely and you’ll spot her in the first-ever episode of the series cozying up to Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon) in the pool after Vince’s (Adrian Grenier) movie premier.

Ballers has been well-received thus far (80 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) but has been criticized by some as sexist for its portrayal of women.

Kebbel’s resume includes Gilmore Girls, The Vampire Diaries, 90210, Life Unexpected, and True Blood, but a long stint on Ballers would be perhaps the biggest gig of her 12-year career.

Still, the actress isn’t resting on her laurels. She has also locked down a recurring role on the final season of FXX’s The League, says Deadline. No word yet on what that part will look like, but her star is certainly rising.

Season one of Ballers is currently on-air and stars John David Washington (The Book of Eli), Omar Benson Miller (8 Mile, CSI: Miami), Troy Garity (Sunshine, Gangster Squad) and Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine). The next episode is scheduled to air August 23, 2015.

If you have to watch one (HBO) Max movie in April 2024, stream this one

HBO built its name off of the movies that it was able to bring to its premium cable channel, and that hasn't changed now that the service has extended its focus to streaming as Max. In this month alone, Max is offering subscribers such films as Black Swan, Elizabethtown, all of the Harry Potter movies, the Infernal Affairs trilogy, The Thomas Crown Affair, and many more. But for us, the one movie that you have to watch on Max in April is The Social Network, a 2010 drama that chronicles the founding of Facebook.

The Social Network is one of the best films by director David Fincher, and its tagline sums up the story pretty well: "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies." And if there's one thing that main character Mark Zuckerberg excels at in this film, it's making enemies on his way toward making a fortune. If you've never seen this movie before, here are five reasons why you should watch The Social Network on Max in April.

What’s new on HBO and Max in April 2024

While Warner Bros. Pictures did not walk away from the Oscars with an award for Best Picture, HBO and Max probably couldn't be happier that Robert Downey Jr. won for Best Supporting Actor in Oppenheimer. That's because Downey is one of the stars of the new HBO original miniseries, The Sympathizer, in which he will play several different characters. If that show lives up to the hype, Downey may be nominated for an Emmy later this year as well.

Additionally, Max is set to have the streaming premiere of the Oscar-winning film The Zone of Interest on April 5. This month also has the debut of the new comedy special, Conan O’Brien Must Go. True crime lovers should check out The Jinx – Part Two. And for genre lovers, Max is hosting the streaming premiere of the animated superhero flick, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One.
