Movie mix-up: Theater plays trailer for R-rated ‘Sausage Party’ before ‘Finding Dory’

As anyone who has been to an animated family film knows, the trailers that air in advance of them are usually pretty darn PG. Due to the overwhelming popularity of Pixar’s Finding Dory, however, an audience full of kids was recently exposed to something a little more adult-themed.

According to Yahoo, when an overburdened theater manager swapped screens to accommodate the Dory crowd, the manager began showing the wrong movie, resulting in the trailer for Sausage Party being played for a packed house of aghast parents and kiddies.

Though Sausage Party is a cute-looking animated film, it was co-created by the foul-mouthed, dirty-minded Seth Rogen and is decidedly R-rated. While it’s not clear whether it was the standard trailer, or the raunchier red-band version (which is NSFW) that aired in advance of Finding Dory, both are much too racy for the youngsters.

The snafu occurred at the Brenden Theatres in Concord, California, which has already issued an apology.

“Playing that trailer was a one-time honest mistake by a theater manager moving screens around in an effort to accommodate several large last-minute groups wanting to see Dory, the wrong movie was started by mistake,” said Walter Eichinger, vice president of operations for Brenden Theatres. “Our movies are now started and stopped by computer and a click of a mouse. We moved a couple of screens to larger houses to accommodate some walk-up groups over a very, very busy Dory weekend. In the rush, one hardworking manager clicked the wrong movie.”

He went on to add. “We regret [the incident], apologize for it, and we are not happy that it happened. We fully realize that this trailer is not appropriate for Dory and we would never schedule something like that.”

For all you of-age adults out there that are interested in the film, Sausage Party tells the tale of a lone sausage who bands together with a group of groceries to save supermarket products from the grubby hands and salivating mouths of humans.

The film is due out in theaters August 12, and boasts an all-star voice cast that includes Kristen Wiig, James Franco, Paul Rudd, Salma Hayek, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Edward Norton, Bill Hader, and Michael Cera.
