Tom Holland may be headlining his first Marvel film with Spider-Man: Homecoming, but he won’t be left entirely to his own devices. It turns out that the superhero flick will also feature Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, according to THR.

Homecoming won’t be the first time the two characters are seen sharing the screen; both Spider-Man and Iron Man are part of the upcoming, superhero-packed Captain America: Civil War. While key plot details haven’t been revealed yet, Civil War apparently sets up whatever interactions the two will have in Homecoming. Not much is known about what to expect in the latest Spider-Man flick either, other than the fact that it will focus on Peter Parker’s teenage years. Based on that, it would be interesting to see Iron Man serve as a mentor to the budding superhero.

Previous iterations of Spider-Man haven’t exactly been runaway box office successes, so it’s clear that Marvel is approaching his reintroduction very carefully and strategically. Audiences will first get a taste of the new web-slinger as he’s ushered into the MCU in Civil War, and then Downey’s familiar face (and armor) will add appeal to Homecoming. It sounds like a recipe for success, but of course, we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.

Along with Downey, Holland will be joined by Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as a female lead, Tony Revolori, and Laura Harrier. Jon Watts is directing from a script by Vacation writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. The film is being produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.

Production on Homecoming is set to begin in June, and the film is slated to open on July 7, 2017. In the meantime, Marvel lovers can look forward to the May 7 release of Civil War.

10 best Spider-Man stories ever, ranked
Spider-Man sticks to a wall in a Marvel comic.

There's no rest for Marvel's famous web-slinger. Spider-Man is, perhaps, the most popular superhero across the entire pantheon of Marvel heroes. For decades, the spunky young hero has been pummeling criminals with both his fists and comical wit. He's moved from the pages of comic books to headline several TV series and blockbusting cinematic adventures. Spider-Man's presence in the pop culture fandom simply can't be understated. And with recent storyline innovations and animated adaptations like Across the Spider-Verse, Peter Parker is just one of countless wall-crawlers who dons the title. Each Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, or uh, Spider-Rex (that's right, there's a T-Rex with spider powers) has their own story and individual capabilities.

Whether we're viewing the world from the Peter Parker lens or any of his countless inter-dimensional compadres, there's a wealth of Spider-Man stories at our fingertips across multiple mediums. In our multimedia age, Spider-Man is everywhere and some of the best stories featuring the iconic hero aren't always within the pages of comic books. So, if you're looking for a Spider-Man story oozing with thrills, character-centric story arcs, and enthralling conflicts, look no further than our handy list featuring Spider-Man at his best.

Iron Man 3 is the most underrated MCU movie ever. Here’s why it’s worth watching
Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Robert Downey Jr. in the poster for Iron Man 3.

Casual comic book movie fans may be surprised to hear it, but upon the release of Iron Man 3, the most common response among comic book readers was anger. Since the first film, there had been hints that Tony Stark's comic book nemesis, the Mandarin, would eventually make his live-action debut in a future Iron Man sequel. And when it finally happened in Iron Man 3, fans felt that Marvel had chickened out because Ben Kingsley's Mandarin wasn't really the Mandarin at all. He was just an actor who was pretending to be the Mandarin.

Some fans have held on to that anger for so long that they will tell you to your face that Iron Man 3 is one of the worst movies in the MCU. That's a view that needs additional perspective. In 2008, Iron Man was an instant classic that kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revitalized the career of Robert Downey Jr., and established Jon Favreau as one of the top directors in Hollywood. It also became the template for almost every Marvel movie that came after it, for better or worse. It's pretty hard for any movie to live up to that legacy, much less the third in a series.
