TRON Uprising teaser trailer features speeding light cycles

Maybe TRON Legacy didn’t manage to live up to the monumental levels of hype that preceded its release last year, but the almost 20 years late sequel to Steven Lisberger’s original 1982 film at least painted a more detailed picture of the franchise’s beautiful computer world. It’s a locale that will be further explored in Disney’s upcoming TRON Uprising, an animated series featuring a story that is set between the events of TRON and its 2010 follow-up.

Now we’ve got our first look at the TV show’s vision for that world, thanks to a newly released teaser trailer. The animation uses a mix of CG animation — obviously not on the level of last year’s movie, but close enough — and more traditional hand-drawn characters. The teaser doesn’t reveal much, instead highlighting the action with a light cycle chase. The only dialogue comes at the very end: “What are you looking for?” one voice asks, possibly the Elijah Wood-voiced main character Beck. “The next Tron,” another voice replies.

The story follows Woods’ Beck as he mounts a revolution on The Grid. The star-studded cast also features Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen and Bruce Boxleitner. The story comes from Legacy writer/producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, who are also known for their work on the now-concluded TV series Lost.
