I travelled recently to Sweden for vacations. I bought a JOS MP-300 (512mb) over there after reading about it on the web. Since it is not available in Canada (yet), it was my chance to get hold of it.

There was a few reasons why the MP-300 caught my attention:

    1. A flash memory device (so no moving internal parts)

    2. Can be used with a AA battery

    3. A very impressive sound quality

    4. A very cool design (classic and stylish)

    5. FM tuner

    6. Direct recording capability ( MP3 and voice)

After a few weeks using it, I should admit that I’m still impressed by the quality of this little MP3 player. I carry around over a hundred of tunes that I can easily change from time to time.

Listening mostly to jazz and classic music I should say that it delivers (the equalizers are really making a true difference).

Very satisfied so far, I highly recommend any of the JOS products. I also read somewhere that they eventually want to introduce a HDD player…

Totally awesome sound, better than iaudio and iriver… and a very well made player to boot. The feature list is incredible. I have a cowon cw 300 and an iriver ifp 390t and this just kills them both!!! Here is hoping for OGG vorbis support in the future. My only complaint is the price and lack of a case. This player will be a real treat for those brave enough to take the plunge!!! The noise level is So low, like a sharp auvi amp, but with better sn ratio and more output!! YES1

After waiting 2 years to finally spring for an MP3 Player/Voice Recorder, I definitely made the right choice with the MP-300. Battery life is incredible.

Since I wanted a Voice Recorder as much as the MP3, I wasn’t putting lots of expectations on the sound; which turned out to be a very pleasant surprise.

Don’t care too much for the jog dial; the button has to be well-centered to push which gets a little irritating if you are speeding through the menus but not irritating enough not to buy it.

Portability and the Windows type File Transfer is a big plus. USB 1.0 is a downside. Didn’t think I would care but if there was any shot Jens would be producing a USB 2.0 in the next couple of months, I think I would have waited for that one. It can take up to 30 minutes to fill up the player (512MB).

I’ve read many negatives about all MP3 players with FM receivers regarding reception so my expectations

were low. I was pleasantly surprised with the reception. Even recorded a couple of songs that sounded pretty good. Not as good reception as a car stereo but fairly close.

The FM transmitter leaves a lot to be desired. I couldn’t find a single spot on the FM between 87 and 95 that had little enough outside interference to broadcast from the MP-300. Of course, that variable is completely dependent on your location. If you live around Yellowstone National park, maybe you’ll have more luck but not in a Metro area. I would completely discourage anyone from making this a deciding factor about buying this player for that reason.

However, I would definitely recommend it. Voice and FM files are easily transferred and can be played back or burned immediately since they are coded into MP3 on the player. There are no issues with uploading certain file types or any of that mess with many players. I have used the Voice function to record my sons and then just converted to .WAV/CD and sent it off to their grandparents. Pretty much on the fly and not an all day project.

Also, Outward Sound is great. I got the player when promised and when I couldn’t get the FM transmitter to work; I called out there and within 10 minutes they emailed me revised firmware……..problem solved.

I’m not very impressed with the sound of this product. The design is OK, but rechargeable batteries would have improved my impressions.. I’ve already sold it.

Those that are posting saying the sound quality sucks, either have not purchased this product and just like bashing it, or are deaf. I have listened to the Nomads, iPods, iRivers of the world, and this player ranks way up there among the best. If you add a nice set of headphones to it, you will be in audio utopia.

I am not sure why these last few people are bashing it, but this player sounds much better than the Muro IMO.

Bought mine off pricegrabber.com a month ago. After one week of use, the player has already been shipped back because the unit froze…..Hopefully, they’ll send me a new unit soon

The sound quality was ok, the bass kept blowing the sound quality, maybe its the headphones. The FM transmitter is very weak and the sound quality is less than FM quality.

Extremely disatisfied with this MP3 player. Unit worked fine for about 2 weeks before it regularly froze up. Sent it back for a replacement and still have not heard from the online dealer regarding my status! Next time, I’ll spend my money on something more reliable.

The people who are bashing it are idiots that work for shops that don’t stock the player! they know it’s major competition. As the man said previously, the quality of this player is top notch, especially the sound. It does not freeze.

I bought my player may 2004 and was at first happy with it, but as I tried to use some of the features (like random or deleting folders) I first experienced the bugs in this player.

As you can see on the JoS homepage (http://www.jensofsweden.com), you can read about all the bugs (the forum) and also take notice of the firmware date. It appears they are more concerned on making new products than bugfixing their current.

I have been very disappointed with this and can therefore NOT recommend this player at its current state (20th of august, 2004).
