Four-digit pins and pattern-locks are so 2012. It’s been a long time coming, but you can finally expect biometric fingerprint scanners to start popping up in smartphones later this year. Earlier today at Mobile World Congress, we caught up with CricualTec – a Korean electronics manufacturer that has developed a tiny fingerprint scanning module they’re ready start putting in phones.
And the module isn’t a one-trick pony either. With the ability to scan and remember all of your fingerprints and assign different functions to each one, it’s more of a ten-trick pony. CrucialTec has gone beyond simple lock screens, and developed some clever software implementations that let you do things like encrypt files and execute shortcuts.
