Mercedes-Benz’s GLC Coupe will bring a dose of form-over-function design to the NY show

Mercedes-Benz is just days away from unveiling a brand new crossover called GLC Coupe. Aimed at the BMW X4, the stylish GLC Coupe will be presented to the public next week at the New York Auto Show.

If you’ve been keeping up with Mercedes news, the GLC Coupe doesn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s essentially a carefully toned-down version of the conspicuously-named Concept GLC Coupe that was presented last year during the Shanghai Auto Show. The production model is expected to feature more realistic headlights, a less aggressive front bumper, bigger mirrors, and regular door handles, though the final design is being kept under wraps until the New York show opens its doors.

From the front passengers’ point of view, the GLC Coupe will bear more than a passing resemblance to the standard GLC. It will offer an upscale interior with a slanted center console, round air vents, and a high-resolution screen mounted on top of the dashboard. The story is different out back, where the rear passengers will undoubtedly notice that the coupe-like body reduces head room.

The sonorous teaser video suggests we’ll see the sport-focused Mercedes-AMG model before the tamer Mercedes-Benz version. British magazine Autocar reports the range-topping version will be badged GLC43, meaning it will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine rated at 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. Power will be sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system.
