The entire ala cart idea is insane. Why don't we just pay for the roads we actually use, or the fire departments we actually use, or the sewer lines we actually use, or.....you get the idea. As a businessman I understand the economics of "bundled" tiers, and the fact that it is 1) cheaper to offer 2) offers more choices and 3) gives small and new services a chance to find an audience.

Let the market decide. Oh, yes...one more thing...with V-chips and parental control there is no issue for children. The issue is for adults who think they know better than I do what I should (or should not) watch. For there personal use, ALL TV's have a new invention-it is called the Off Button!

Gee, why don't we have a library card for only the books we think we will want to read in the future?

Gimme choice. Today I paid my $80 DirecTV bill, and I know a chunk of that money goes to pay programming providers for channels I never watch.

ESPN, Nickelodeon, the MTV channels, all demand premium cash from DirecTV. I never watch these channels yet I end up paying for them every single month. Worse, Disney forces DTV to take stuff like ToonDisney if they still want to have ESPN, so I'm paying for channels I don't want and those channels are force-feeding yet more channels I don't want.

How is this worse than being allowed to choose? Even if my bill goes up, at least THAT would be my choice and I'd know exactly where every dollar went.
