John MacFarlane seems to be basing this information on the success of his company, rather than on research data. And I think you nailed it Michael.

The problem with the Digital Home is that it has not been defined, so the industry is not sure exactly what the Digital Home is. Is it home automation? No. Is it streaming high-definition content? That could be part of it. I agree that as long as there is a broadband connection and a network, then any home is a Digital Home, it just might not be focused on what the Sonos product addresses - music.

Companies are spending billions on IPTV products: (Read Akimbo receives series C capital: <a href="<a rel="nofollow" href="http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2006/06/26/daily8.html?from_yf=1)."">http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2006/06/26/daily8.html?from_yf=1)." title="<a rel="nofollow" href="http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2006/06/26/daily8.html?from_yf=1)."">http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2006/06/26/daily8.html?from_yf=1)." target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/200... Another much overlooked fact is that with the introduction of Video on Demand (VOD) I would even argue that the Digital Home is at a higher percentage than what is being predicted. Digital content through VOD is already being accessed in millions of homes. Verizon FIOS technology is rolling out at extreme speeds as well.

To say the Digital Home is ten years off, is a poor prediction and one said out of pure discontent. Remember the Sonos System is a great product, but at $1200 price point for a streaming receiver, there are a lot of things that are 10 years off...
