Sniff, sniff.

This smells like self-sabotage. I mean on purpose.

The dinos who run these studios don't like the internet, and for all we can tell, it's as if they believe that if they try hard enough, they can make it all go away. Get back to the old days when they could force-feed us and we the consuming public (and we have to be consumers only, not producers!) had no power.

So maybe they're doing this -- a plan that so obviously hackneyed that it almost *has* to be on purpose. Prove the internet can't work!

You forgot to mention that both require you to be using Internet Explorer. Firefox users are turned away.

Acually there are 2 problems:
1 – The Price (most movies aren't even worth $10)
2 – MPAA's involvement in this whole thing

This is Doomed to fail! No one in their right mind would pay that price. You can get a used DVD at Blockbuster or your local Pawn Shop for 5 bucks.

The whole reason for the very high price is that it is easy to lower the price later, but, as the music industry has found, impossible to raise the price.

$20-30 is ridiculous for a movie download. Its not like these are high definition movies we are talking about.

I have very mixed emotions about this model, much like I do with iTunes. I think its nice that you can download on a per-song basis, but there is something to be said for actually owning the CD and being able to do what you want with it. I collect movies in addition to music, and I feel like I need that DVD sitting there on my movie rack as proof of my money spent – I physically own something.
