Borderlands dev mashes up looting, shooting, and cartoon style in Battleborn

Gearbox Software steps away from the Borderlands universe for its next outing, turning instead to something entirely new: Battleborn. Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford describes it as a “genre-fused, hobby-grade” shooter that combines a cooperative story mode with competitive multiplayer. The game is coming to PC (Windows), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One by or before March 31, 2016, according to the press release. It’s worth noting that the game’s official Facebook page mentions a 2015 release.

Here’s an official description of the game’s universe and basic setup:

In Battleborn’s distant future, the only hope for the last star in a dying universe is a new breed of warriors, who must put aside their differences to drive back an unstoppable menace. Choose from a myriad of powerful heroes and fight together alongside your friends in an intense co-operative campaign, or battle against them in fast-paced competitive multiplayer matches.

The first details on Battleborn are revealed in the July issue of Game Informer. You should also keep watching the game’s Facebook and Twitter feeds, as well as the official website, to stay up-to-date on the latest reveals.
