I bought these over the Klipsch speakers and so far I think they sound much better. I think that the white noise is to be expected with so much power running through a system like this.

I bought these speakers recently due to an exceptional deal from Dell.com. I’m planning to use them as a relatively inexpensive home theater system, but so far they have been used for gaming and music. Sound quality is excellent and I have noticed none of the “background hiss” that is noted in many reviews. My only complaint is that the LCD display on the control center is very directional, meaning that you have to be directly in front of it to see it clearly. In my opinion, this is the only thing preventing these speakers from getting a 10.

Get a real HT setup in front of a TV, these are a total overkill. Get the $100 Logitech set and save your money

I upgraded to these from a set of Klipsch v.2-400 (the original high power computer speakers) and was really disappointed. While they had more than enough power, in my environment (dorm room), the white noise is horrible loud…I could hear it above my computer sitting 2 feet away running 10 fans which i can tell is far from quiet. Furthermore, a week after I hooked the system up (and never having turned the volume over 1/2 way), the subwoofer started rattling! I took the speakers back and purchased a set of Klipsch ProMedia 5.1′s and am much happier.

Bought these recently. Got good price and free shipping. Check Fatwallet.com

All around great sound. White noise fixed with firmware version upgrade. From Logitech only….

Only complaint is the remote doesn’t work well from long range. Consider an IR-blaster..

Recently purchased this unit through a major online reseller and received an updated version which has addressed and siginificantly reduced the problem of white noise whenever the system is on. As the review mentions, mid-range and highs are reproduced with a fidelity you’d expect to hear from much more expensive speakers. We use this for our modest-sized living room and it has no problems filling the space with a very clean sound. Take the opening sequence of Attack of the Clones, when the senator’s ship moves across the screen, Very Low Frequency Effects that drone out of the subwoofer are AMAZING in it is so bone-shakingly powerful and free of any kind of distortion (on a competing 5.1 system I’ve heard the sub “rattle” as if paper was stuck somewhere inside during the same scene). Bottom line– If you’re looking for a set of great and cheap (relative to “real” audiophile setups) this beats any of the home theater-in-a-box kits hands down.

I had the rare chance of having 3 seperate PCs in the same room with 3 different speaker setups (Logitech Z680, Megaworks 550s, Klipsch 5.1). Each and every time, I was put in awe by the Z680s. In fact, while “testing” the bass with Tool, the Z680s actually made my Megaworks fall off the desk (those 550s, they’re so cute!).

True, the speakers cost about half my total net-worth, but I still felt it was a good investment, as I can now not only cause the windows of my house (and my neighbors’ house) to shake, but I can be rest assured I have the best PC speaker system to date, and quite possibly for the foreseeable future. If you dont need more power than what was dropped on Hiroshima, then give the Z560s or even the Megaworks 510ds (a great 5.1 system in its own respect) a whirl.

I’m not a major sound nut like others, but I still appreciate a full sound. For the cost, these most certainly satisfy me.

I live in a unit, so using these as my dvd/tv sound is more than enough.

I’m not a huge gamer but to those who are, these must be a “slight case of overbombing” when it comes to pc speakers!!

Few minutes after I open the box and assembled them out, I found that this things was not fit for my PC, but for my home theather, side along with my DVD player, and my 29-inch flat square TV. The sound was absolutely great !!! The bass level was thunderous. The sound was very clear, and the surrond sound was very staging. I even throw my new Sony DHC-FL7D Home theatre to make space for Logitech Z-680. Trust me, for around US $ 300, it’s give you more than your pay.

I had these speakers and found them awesome at first only later to realise an anoying rattling at the back of the subwoofer. I returned the sub and got a new one only to find the same problem.

Now I have asked for a refund and found I am going to be charged handling fees about 15% of the original purchase price.

    MY ADVICE DONT BUY EM!

I did quite a bit of research before deciding on these speakers, because as you know, there are several comparable systems out there, all of which have their own strengths; the main competitor being of course the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 system. What drew me to these was the slew of extra features, like the built-in hardware decoders, the wide array of inputs, and the aesthetics of the speakers themselves. I also admired the fact that Logitech didn’t have to exaggerate its power for credibility, and, after hearing them, there was no need for them to. It seems as if Logitech fixed the white noise problem that I’ve heard so much about, because I didn’t notice it at all. The sub is very responsive, and doesn’t rattle at all, and I’m satisfied with the system’s performance at pretty much all levels. I couldn’t recommend this system enough. If you want the cream of the crop of PC audio, then this is the system for you. Not to mention you can hook just about anything else into it.

I spent a lot of time looking and listening to other speaker systems before buying this one a month ago. I am not disapointed one bit. There is no white noise or subwoofer rattling problem with my setup. I am a BIGTIME PC gamer. Sound is crucial to me and I have very big requirements for sound. These speakers certainly meet and exceed those requirements.

This is my primary HT system and the power is way more than what my apartment (and neighbours) can handle. I have it connecte to my big screen TV, DVD player, VCR and PS2. Anything from GTA Vice City to Matrix Reloaded just rocks on this. Great sound. Pity I can’t go all the way on the bass in my apartment. The LCD display is hard to read from afar at an angle. You have to be inline which is a minor hassle once you get used to it.

I am using this speakers to DVD and tv.And i have to say ,that they can compare with other theater systems to much higher price. They play extreem loud, and clear.

so i will recomend this for anyone who`s think`n of bying a theater system for DVD and tv.It`s a shame to use these with your computer.I think they belong in the livingroom.By the TV set.

I have tried my Logitech Z-680s on my XBOX, DVD Player, Stereo TV and Gamecube with amazing results.

Even after reading some very positive reviews, I was still over-impressed by the performance.

Regarding the much talked about ‘white-noise’, this has not been an issue for me – to be honest I have not even noticed it. This is possibly due to the spacing of the satelites, as I’ve used them in as a Home Theater setup, rather then a confined Computer Desktop arrangement. If you’re worried about the noise, get your local retailer to demo them first.

I got my Z-680s for AUS$460, which to me was a real bargain (some places are selling them still for AUS$699). I am now madly purchasing DVD Movies and revealing in the sound produced by the Z-680s. On a ‘Bang-for-bucks’ scale I find these speakers unmatched!

After having many problems with AC3 files I decided to change the system. Not a single noise problem since these speakers are installed. The sound is very vivid. The Sub level needs to be set at a minimum because otherwise it changes the sound to much. The white noise is only there when there is no sound at all. And so if you don’t listen to the music, shut down the speakers. Good placing of the speakers is important, once you have done you have all the fun in the world

After running this system for a solid six months I think I could give the Z-680 a solid review. This system is all about the “wow” factor. I was running this system on a PS2 through a Monster TosLink cable and Digital Satellite via Monster Digital Coax. (I should also add that all included wiring from Logitech that was in the box went in the garbage and I bought some quality stuff).

PS2 performance was good but nothing outstanding and the same for the Satellite. I reconfigured the system, taking away the PS2 and adding a Panasonic S27 DVD (digital coax) and the results were like night and day. The Z-680′s sprang to life, and my purchase anxiety was instantly gone. Bass Response? Enough to drive my neighbors insane. Highs and lows? Excellent. And I’m only talking about ProLogic2. The Dolby Digital and DTS decoding is extremely well rendered and balanced.

I had done a fair amount of research before buying this system and nothing released by the likes of Creative, JBL, Denon, Yamaha or Sony had the same bang for your buck quality as this Logitech offering. Most of the above mentioned don’t even offer the combination of Dolby ProLogic2, Dolby Digital, DTS 5.1 and THX Certification at even near the same price point or quality.

There are a few drawbacks to this system however, and this is where Logitech cut a few corners. The number of quality inputs on this system is extremely low. If you have a number of digital sources like me you know how frustrating that is. (Solution? Pelican System Selector Pro.. but thats another story) The remote control is an absolute eye sore. It looks like something that should be included in a $40 DVD Player from K-Mart.

A system to invest in? Absolutely. Hands down way ahead of the majority of offerings out there. Wow Factor? Definately. Your friends will be jealous and your girlfriend will think its sexy. Am I happy with it? You bet…

These speakers are great but they are not without a downside. There is a lot of ‘white noise’ and also if you turn the volume up and let the speakers go idle for a short period the volume seems to auto adjust to a lower setting until you play something with a lot of sound. I found this out because I do a lot of audio editing and sometimes need to turn the volume up to hear soft music. also the display is not visible unless you are right in front of it although that is mostly because the backlight is way to bright also the remote control seems to also only work within about a 2 foot range. Additionally, although it is not required since you can purchase speaker wire seperately but it could have come with better wires for the quality. Really, if you set the speakers up with the wires that come with it you won’t get nearly the performance the speakers are capable of. Should use at least 16G wire, not 20. I used to have Altec Lansing 890 speakers which aside from the full surround sound problems were far better. Although I will admit that the hookups are nice. Since I am running the speakers on two computers the connections make it easy to run the speakers to both computers without having to use a splitter.

I just bought these speakers not long ago and let me tell you, since I plug them in for the first time; they exceeded my expectation in every way. The overall sound is very nice even at high volumes, the woofer is just incredible and powerful the surround sound really gives to your movies and games a different whole perspective. Although the LCD display screen is hard to read from almost every angle, I think a contrast setting level for it would have been the answer but well, just place the controller the best way you can.

PD: Try connecting your game console (Xbox, PS2) with the optic input, that’s what I’m talking about.

Good speakers, eventhough the hiss bugs me like shit. Bought better cables and some of it disapered. Cant understand what some people say “The remote only seems to work from 3 feet away” Mine works from 15 meters away and around a small corner and throug a bunch of plants, so…… Too bad Logitech dindnt spend so much on the center, you can hear its not in the same league as the rest, and in doesent support banana plugs, that sucks, not to talk about the sub, it doesent either support banan plugs wich i think is a very lo investment from the manufacters side. The base reflex port i not that good. I ran some Dolby and DTS intros and found out that the reflex-port vibrates at some freq. But after putting it on three spikes the problem pretty much got away. Summary; Good speakers, proabably the best PC speakers, some minor and major faults ike the hiss and banana plug compabillity, Bu overall GOOD.

I was toying with the idea of a pc based home theatre so that I could also play games and these speakers are unreal! I have not noticed any noice problems at all….the bass is unreal…I watched Twister and Top Gun for the surround sound and effects and was totally blown away! I gave it 9 instead of 10 because of the silly litte digital display. You have to have it right in front of you to see it clearly and that bugs me….apart from that they are unreal!!

I can’t wait to plug this into my new iMac G5′s optical port. The sound on a regular conection is excellent as it is, but optical will be mind blowing. I have been in the market for a high end system and have shopped around. these were a steal at around $200 for a Factory refurbished set. Logitech refurbishes these to factory condition, and they look and perform like new.

There is a better system though, for about a hundred bucks more. It’s the Logitech Z-5500. Same system pretty much, but it has a 10″ sub, and a better system controller.

I’m rating it 9 because like another person noted, the controllers digital screen isn’t easy to read from a couple of feet away. (I have found a way around this, but it requires me to raise my office chair to it’s highest setting, but I can see it nicely at that point).

Bottom line, if you can find a great deal on these like me, jump on it, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better system.
