I’m pleased with the Q internal funtionality. Mechanically the phone is a nightmare. Buttons are exposed above the surface of the phone. Putting this phone in your pocket, holster, or purse for that matter causes the buttons to press and make uneccessary phone calls which makes this phone a pain to use.

The Q just does so much — phone, e-mail, Internet access, music, video, games and more. And I use the simple keypad lock so I don’t make accidental calls.

Ive owned a lot of phones and I really love this one. My only complaint is the screen smudges real easy, I even have a screen protector but I overlook that small flaw for all the good points, and if you use key lock before putting it holster or pocket you will have no problems.

I’ve had this phone now going on three weeks and I must say it is very confusing. Em is very hard to access, battery life sucks and I don’t know why Motorola did not incoporate a lock out feature upon keying up. Okay so I might not be the most computer savvy person, but Motorola could of made the owners manual a lot more friendlier(let’s say with some picture content)I’ve been hearing about the battery upgrade but verizon want’s to charge $70 I’m sorry but I didn’t pay that much for the phone.I guess I should have kept my razor.

I just got this phone and I’m pretty happy with it! its easy to use and navigate. The screen does smudge easily, but overall its a great phone. I just want to know what other software I can put in this thing and is there some software I can remove that I know I’m not going to use.

I ‘m on my second Q from Verizon, and the same problem continues. I have to remove the battery several times a day and some times several times in an hour.
Some times I do not get emails for hours. That is the network. But the lockups requiring to pull the battery out is too much to fracuent. Try doing it driving. It may be an area thing, check for local references before you buy this phone.

I’m on my 4th Q since January (This is May 1). Same problems as Carlos and then some. Each one has slowly died, never getting past the main Verizon screen.

Phone locks up, I don’t get calls or emails. I had to restart the phone several times a day. You will get what you pay for, my advice is to wiegh cost vs. performance.

I have had 9 of them in 11 months. Battery life is awful, email is unreliable, unit is less than user friendly. Can’t wait to get rid of it.

I’ve had my Q for about 8 months now, and although I haven’t had any freezing problems, the phone itself just feels like a prototype. For the most part, it’s very counterintuitive, and there are bugs in a lot of the built-in features. Also, there’s no way to "close" a program unless it’s a third party app, so you’re stuck going to the phone’s task manager and killing processes just to stop them from forever running in the background. I have no complaints about the screen, the voice quality, or verizon’s service, but I didn’t buy a Q *just* to use it as a phone.

I’ve had mine 2 months, it is now non-functional and I am waiting for a replacement. Voice quality is decent but lots of problems with the operation of the device as others have written. Doesn’t have enough internal power so one program will delay another (i.e. going from calendar to camera is like watching a web page download with a dial-up connection). Does not store sent text messages; just incoming. Voicemail indicator says “1 voicemail message” even if you have 7 or 8. Battery life is short (and I am a light user). I could go on, but in my opinion the Q is a big disappointment.

I cannot understand people who think this phone is “amazing”!
So many problems with the Q, it’s awful!
Bad synching, slow slow slow interface. Ropey, counterintuitive applications, random resets, random shutdowns, the list goes on and on!
I can only imagine someone has a vested interest to rate this phone a 10.

I have had 4 Motorola Qs in the past 5 months and I am not impressed at all.
Problems include:
Phone does not synch properly
Phone resets itself
Counterintuitive software
Unreliable in making and receiving calls (good at not ringing but telling me I’ve missed calls!)
Bad applications that don’t function well or even look good e.g. Can they really get away with calling that a calculator?!
The applications stay running in the background but you can’t even cycle through them. Furthermore you can’t exit unless you go out of your way to kill them – That’s just lazy and bad programming.
No cut n paste functionality.
Etc. etc. the list goes on and on.
I cannot think of a good thing about this phone that stands out from any other. Oh it’s thin, but it is also wide!
Poor battery life – however when you use the long-life battery you don’t have to charge it every night (like a normal phone), but hey, now it’s both fat and wide!

My husband left for work stressed out again because this product (system, phone, whatever it is supposed to be) has reset itself for the second time and he has lost all of his “contacts” AGAIN. He conducts 50% of his business by phone. I told him to have a nice day and kissed him good-bye. I hope he kisses this Motorola Q good-bye and gets something more reliable.

I can not believe all these horrible reviews of the Motorola Q. I had mine for 3 months and I love it!!! I love the key pad; I am a huge texter and can’t stand the 3 letters to a number crap. In addition, I HATE flip phones! Plus, I wanted a phone that would hold a ton of songs so I got a bigger mini SD and I can store so much stuff on my phone-instead of spending more money on a dang iPod or MP3 player. I love this phone, but then again, I came to this phone after having a horrible crappy phone that ALWAYS dropped my calls, had the worst reception in the whole damn world, and it was a flip phone with the 3 letters to a number-which drove me insane. Also, a person above said the phone was “resetting itself”. Unless the phone is broken, it does NOT reset itself. The only time mine has ever done that was 7 days after I first got my phone, and that was only because I was stupid and fooling around and trying to find out what everything was doing without reading the manual. Also, the “resetting option” is really neat, because if you get a virus or something, it completely wipes it out, so those people need to get a clue and realize that a phone is NOT COMPLETELY a computer, it is a darn phone for crying out loud. I would recommend this phone to anyone, I love it! Also, my call rings really loud, so loud that I can hear it when I am on the other end of my house (and I have a pretty big home). I am super happy with my phone-buy one!

I have had this phone/PDA for almost 2 years and have had nothing but problems!!! First the battery didn’t last but a few hours, bought a bigger battery. That only lasts about 6 hours constantly needs recharging. I need this while I am on the road, had to buy a car charger. Next it keeps shutting down and losing the information and my contacts. Then nothing to stop the keys from dialing numbers or entering text while in a purse. Bought a protector, then the keys started going up. Some keys do not work at all now and I must purchase another phone to replace this one at full cost because the warranty is up. I cannot use some of the keys and I have to wait the full 2 years to get a new phone. 2 years can’t come soon enough!!!

I have had my Q for almost two years, well two of them actually because the first one didn’t work after a few months. This phone is really a piece of junk. The battery life is horrible. I use the extended battery, still charge it daily and it can’t make it through a day. The keys are easily bumped causing the phone do things on its own. The camera key is especially poorly placed and easily bumped. The camera will very rapidly drain your battery. The phone freezes up every once in a while and the only way to restart it is to take the batter y out. Email DOES work fine for me, and the Internet browsing on Verizon’s unlimited data plan also works pretty well. While the clarity of the phone calls is great, the Q is not very comfortable to talk on, especially in the summer when it is hot. It’s like putting a calculator on your face. Definitely get something else, not this phone.

I bought the Motorola Q last June and already I’m on my 3rd one. The home screen kept on freezing up on me, the battery would not charge, I could not get the Office Sync downloaded on the phone or the computer to my phone, it shuts itself off.
Do not buy this phone. This is the worst phone I have ever bought.

I’ve been using my Q for over a year now and have come to love it. Initially it was purchased as an interim device for basic email and web browsing after my laptop was stolen. Since I already had my email accounts set up with hotmail and yahoo prior to using my Q setting up my email on the device was relatively easy due to the automatic setup features. Yes, there are limitations as to what you’re able to do with email but this is a mobile phone device first with web features. As with my experiences with my PC’s I had to explore the Q’s many options not explicitly explained in the user manual. Sure, no one wants to spend the good part of their busy schedule re-tweaking their device but after spending a lazy Sunday afternoon exploring the device features and capabilities I found out exactly what was required to have a hassle free pocket pc available for basic internet use. There are a few secrets that I found to be helpful. First, open start menu and find settings. From settings go to connections. Open connections and find proxy. Open proxy and add from menu. Under Proxy (name: port): type in http:8080. Beneath that for Type choose HTTP. Leave user name and password blank. Connects from: select The Internet and Connects to:WAP Network. Done. Now add another Proxy (name: port) as socks:localhost:1080 . Select Type as Socks4 and Connects from: The Internet and Connects to:WAP Network. Again do not put user name or password in. click done. Now you should have A HTTP and B SOCKS. Click done. Now click menu while proxy is highlighted and select advanced. Leave all as automatic while selecting Menu again and select Options from Menu. Open options and select my desktop connects to The Internet. Select done. Choose done again to exit Connections. Select done from settings and exit Start by selecting Home icon on keypad above e r of the QWERTY keypad. If you have not already setup an email account with Yahoo or Hotmail using a PC then do so before using the email auto setup on your Q. Once you’ve established your respective accounts with passwords open start on your Q. Go to messaging. Select Outlook E-mail. Select Menu and open Options and select New Account. Now you may wish to add your name (optional) but you must enter your E-mail address, e.g. yourname@ISP.com. Select automatic setup and select next. If you are using an MSN address you will need to now put your user name as yourname@hotmail or msn.com. Yahoo and AOL only require user name without @ISP.com. Key in your password and leave Domain blank but select save paaword and select next. Select Network to be The Internet and select next. Now select Outgoing server requires authentication but do not put user info into Outgoing Server Settings. Select next and unless you have at least 1 gig SD memory card on your device do not select all e-mail but select entire message. Select next. Now be careful as depending on what type of service your cell phone carrier provides for web connections (I have Sprint Power Vision $10 per month only because the Q does not enable Live TV or music streaming on the first model. Yes, I was not happy either!) Select never under Connect automatically and check for messages: so that you do not accrue unnecessary charges from carrier nor tie up your cell broadband which will affect receiving calls. Select next. Select Finish. Now you should be in Account options which will only show Yahoo or AOL IMAP. Hotmail will by default be in your start menu from home screen. Select done in Account options. Select done in Options. Now under menu select highlighted Send/Receive and allow device to connect and retrieve e-mail messages and folders. Hint: Learn how to manage folders under menu by selecting folders, show all folders and then manage folders. Sync only your necessary folders as it will eat up your memory in phone if you sync all folders on your ISP E-mail account. Save that task until you’re able to use a PC. Remember, this is a mobile phone for your necessary web needs. You are able to send and receive attachments and even save attached photos or documents to phone memory. But! Remember to Save As to your Storage Card only as your phone will become frozen or sluggish if you use all device and RAM memory unnecessarily. Also, once you’ve retrieved all your messages close messaging using home icon and select start System Tools and Task Manager. Open Task Manager and select Kill All from menu. Refresh and select exit from Menu. Now all of your icons for the features you’ve used on phone should be accessible from display screen. Besides everything I’ve covered there are still a load of features available on the Q that is fantastic. Setup ActiveSync 4.5 on your home PC and explore features of that. Especially syncing all Contacts, calendar, Email and tasks. Media requires a bit more effort but offers option of storing music, picture and video files on memory card. While the Q has an earpiece jack the sound quality on the Q is so-so. Also, Bluetooth offers headset options but again sound quality is at best tinny even with high end Bluetooth headsets.
With all of that said I am fully satisfied with my Q and appreciate the savings for my basic web needs for only $10 via Sprint as opposed to $39.99 through BlackBerry. Invest in Extended life battery with charger and a car charge adapter. This enables a spare battery for backup as web activity eats up your battery time available.
Enjoy and explore the hidden features and capabilities. If you find any you really like post them as I’ve done so that we all can benefit!

I started looking at the Smart Phones 2 years ago and had settled on the Palm Treo 650 for function, comfort & prices. Then while waiting in a doctor’s office, I began reading an article giving feedback on Smart Phones. Being a Sprint customer already, I was able to haggle on price & service (internet for $10 a month!) and I am totally satisfied. I can blast my contact list record and photograph my 2 year old & still stay in touch with everyone. My business team members are switching by the dozens.
The camera is as clear as the monitor on my computer.

I purchased this phone 2 months ago and am mostly unimpressed.
The battery life is horrible. The internet is okay but does run a little slow. This is the second Motorola phone I’ve had and I say the same thing about this phone that I said about the other phone…it’s the worst phone I’ve ever had.
