2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger headed to New York, Scat Packs add power

Dodge announced this morning that it’ll be bringing refreshed 2015 Charger and Challenger models to the 2014 New York Auto Show next week.

The Challenger will get a new powertrain combo, which we’re hoping is the 640-horsepower Hellcat V8. And the Charger “receives a full-body makeover with nearly every single body panel being resculpted,” according to a Dodge press release.

If you’re keen to get your hands on some serious American muscle sooner than 2015, Dodge has you covered there, too.

2014 Dodge Charger and Challenger are getting the “Scat Pack”. American muscle has never been so scatty … OK I don’t know what that means. But it gets the people going, let’s say.

And get them going it should. The Scat Packs for Dodge’s infamous Charger and Challenger are an industry-first performance upgrade set for the 5.7-liter HEMI V8.

The Scat Packs come in three flavors. Scat Pack 1 – at $2,195 – includes a Mopar cold air intake, Mopar cat-back exhaust, Stage 1 performance PCM, Mopar low restriction oil filter, and two Scat Pack 1 stage kit hard badges. And for just shy of $2,200, how much extra scat – er, I mean power – do you get? A whopping 18 horsepower and 18 pound-feet of torque. Wow!

Scat Pack 2, which runs at $1,895 – in addition to the $2,195 with Stage 1 – includes Mopar performance camshaft kit: includes camshaft, tiebars, heavy-duty pushrods and gaskets, Stage 2 performance PCM, and two Scat Pack 2 stage kit hard badges. Scat 2 adds 30 ponies over stock.

Last but lost least is Scat Pack 3. Totaling $4,995, muscle-obsessed owners get a Mopar performance CNC ported cylinder heads, Mopar hi-flow headers, Mopar hi-flow catalysts, Stage 3 performance PCM, and two Scat Pack 3 stage kit hard badges. For nearly five grand, what kind of extra power are we looking at? 58 hp and 47 lb-ft. Yeah.

While these packs won’t affect your warranty, I feel like these upgrades don’t quite seem worth the coin. If you’re interested, though, the Scat Packs will be available at your local Dodge dealers in the Spring.
