Audi launching RS5 Cabriolet for U.S. auto market?

American fans of fun, sun, and everything Audi rejoice: it appears that the German luxury automaker plans on bringing RS5 Cabriolet to U.S. shores after all.

While Audi has already done us all the kind service of confirming the RS5 Coupe’s impending arrival, Car and Driver has now reported that the powerful convertible recently had its papers of certification submitted to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). This is particularly good news because in order to sell their automotive wares in the Golden State, car manufactures, like Audi, must demonstrate that any new models meet the state’s stringent emissions standards — otherwise no dice. Therefore Audi’s submission gives us a good indication that it is indeed preparing the RS5 Cabriolet for the U.S. market.

Of course it’s worth mentioning that automakers routinely submit certification papers for various models that don’t actually show up, but considering Audi has already confirmed the RS5 Coupe — and given that the United States remains one of the largest markets for convertibles in the world — we’re willing to bet the RS5 Cabriolet’s arrive is more than likely.

Unfortunately what we can’t speak to is when the car will actually make it to U.S. showrooms. But rest assured when it does, we imagine there will be many that would happily cruise around town in Audi’s 450-horsepower, 317 pound-feet of torque, and Quattro all-wheel drive convertible. Danke, Audi.
