The BMW X6 gets a dash of extra carbon fiber crazy with M Performance upgrades

BMW has had a knack for making its crossovers feel as close to a car as possible, while retaining the utility the segment demands. The latest generation of the Bavarian automaker’s X6 is ready to hit the streets. While it’s hardly a slouch in the performance area, the M sport upgrades are already available to give the 2015 X6 that little extra bite.

Saddled with either a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo six-cylinder engine capable of 300 horsepower, the xDrive35i X6 has a power kit upgrade that increases the output to 326 hp. The xDrive30d, with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine, gets a bump from 258 hp to 277 hp. No upgrades to the 4.4-liter V8 in the xDrive50i trim, though, but 445 hp should be enough to get by on.

Carbon fiber aerodynamic mods can be found on the outside, along with black accents, chrome exhaust tips and four 21-inch alloy wheels to choose from. You’ll find that they should complement the blue M Performance brake calipers attached to the 19-inch vented discs underneath.

More carbon fiber will customize the interior of the X6 with the M Performance upgrades, as well as Alcantara trim, stainless steel pedal covers, and custom tread plates. Probably the most significant interior upgrade will be the M Performance Drive Analyzer, which lets drivers review a heap of data collected from your dive. You can look at speed info, gear changes, and your usage of the gas and brake pedal. All this can be pushed to a smart phone app for later analysis (or bragging) at your convenience.

Pricing for the various performance upgrades have yet to be released, and if these upgrades don’t satisfy your performance desires, there’s still the X6 M. Revealed at the LA Auto Show, this crossover receives the full M treatment, from a modified suspension to a V8 that puts out 567 hp. This X6 starts at $103,050 and goes on sale next year.
