Get excited and rev your engines, the first official photos and specs of the eagerly anticipated Toyota FT-86 (now the GT 86) have finally been released courtesy of Toyota’s UK office. Needless to say we have been excited about this car for over a year now, and with official photos and specs for the upcoming two-seater, rear-wheel drive, sports car, to look over well, we’re more than tickled pink.
While some of the info here has already been speculated, it’s still a joy to see official information drop from Toyota itself. The new GT 86 will feature a 2.0-liter boxer with D4-S injection. The engine will pump out 197 hp and 151 lb-ft torque. Drivers will be able to choose between a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission and can expect a standard 17-inch wheel/tire package out the gate.
Toyota UK has announced that the GT 86 will go on sale in the UK next June. Expect more information to trickle through as the Tokyo Motor Show continues.
Looks like a Hyundai Tiburon if you ask me…
This is the Toyota version of that new Subaru concept you like right? The non-WRX without the turbo/super charger?
I believe so… but the styling is ever so slightly different. Besides, I never said I didn’t like the way a Tiburon looked. I used to own one. So maybe that’s why it reminds me of one of them ;)
Ya, I agree, it does look like the Tiburon (which looked awesome, but was underpowered IMO).
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Underpowered… It is so underpowered that owners of them constantly make jokes about how slow them are…
Could you add any aftermarket mods though? Super chargers, Turbos etc? Did they even make them for the Tiburon?
Oh yeah! The supercharging scene was pretty big for the v6. Turbo wasn’t really all that large (because it was more of a pita to install) for the i4. Still, for the v6, what good is adding another 20-30 hp with a supercharger, when you start out with 174hp? Not to mention the reliability of those cars are horrible… I had mine in the shop for as long as 3 months at a time.
