Canon has updated their PowerShot A entry level camera's to include the new 7.1 megapixel PowerShot A550 and the 5.0 megapixel PowerShot A460 cameras.
Both the new PowerShot A550 and PowerShot A460 cameras will be available in mid-February and will carry a selling price of $199.99 and $149.99 respectively.
The PowerShot A550 is a 7.1 megapixel camera that features a 4x optical zoom lens and 2-inch LCD screen and features Canon’s DIGIC II image processor. Those of you looking for bargains on the aging PowerShot A530, may want to hold-out for the new A550 which touts a larger screen, higher resolution (7 Vs. 5 MP) and even better battery life.
The PowerShot A460 which replaces the PowerShot A430 is Canon’s true entry-level camera featuring a 5 megapixel resolution and a 2-inch LCD display (compared to the 1.8-inch on the 430). If you have the older 430, you might want to stick with it as the differences with the new A460 are not as drastic as the changes between the A550 and A530 cameras.
“The new PowerShot A550 and A460 digital cameras deliver an exceptional value to the consumer,” says Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager of the Consumer Imaging Group at Canon U.S.A., Inc. “They provide enhanced features and high image quality, while at the same time remaining compact, affordable and easy-to-use. Users are going to love taking pictures with Canon’s new PowerShot cameras and capturing moments that they can continue to enjoy for generations.”
