HP Recalls 679,000 Photosmart R707 Cameras

Hewlett-Packard is recalling 679,000 Photosmart R707 digital because they can overheat when connected to an AC adapter or docking station - but there's a software fix!

Hewlett-Packard and the Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced the recall of 679,000 HP Photosmart R707 digital cameras because the cameras might cause some non-rechargeable batteries to overheat when the cameras are connected to an AC adapter or a docking station. Although the CPSC has received no reports of burns or injuries from the cameras, it has received one report of a camera catching fire and causing minor damage.

The Photosmart R707 cameras were manufactured in China and sold from August 2004 through April 2006 at prices ranging from $250 to $400. Some 224,000 units were sold in the U.S., with a total of 679,000 having been sold worldwide.

Users should stop using the recalled cameras immediately
