Kyocera To Exit The Camera Business

Kyocera has announced that it is exiting the camera business, production of both the Kyocera and Contax brand name will cease by the end of 2005.

Operations in the U.S. have already been closed and distribution has been transferred to Tocad, an American distributor. Kyocera bought Yashica in 1996 and acquired the Contax-brand name as part of the deal.

Despite this announcement, rumours are still circulating of two new launches for Contax’ medium format ranges. A Mark II 645 camera and a digital rangefinder to join the G series have been predicted, but could not be confirm whether these products are still on the design board.
