Though it describes itself as "the number one standalone vendor of flat-panel desktop displays," NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics hasn't abandoned the CRT monitor business.

In fact, the company has introduced a new NEC AccuSync series of 15-, 17-, and 19-inch displays priced for budget-conscious homes, offices, and system builders.

Shipping in January at prices yet to be announced, the 15-inch AccuSync 500 and 17-inch AccuSync 700, 700M with integrated speakers, and 750F flat-screen CRT monitors support up to 1,280 by 1,024 resolution at a refresh rate of 66Hz, while the 19-inch AccuSync 899 offers a 1,600 by 1,200 image at 76Hz. All five monitors offer Opticlear screen coating and FullScan edge-to-edge viewing; reduce power consumption by up to two-thirds when not in use; and convenient on-screen controls. All except the 15-inch model boast dual dynamic-beam focus that allows precise, continuous focus adjustments for optimum image quality.

On the flat-panel side, NEC-Mitsubishi has extended its professional-level NEC MultiSync LCD series with new, ultra-thin-frame 20- and 21-inch monitors for graphics, financial, and other professionals. The MultiSync LCD2080UX+ ($1,500) is a 20-inch desktop LCD with 400:1 contrast ratio and the MultiSync LCD2180UX ($1,550) is a 21-inch display with 500:1 contrast.

Both high-end LCDs offer 1,600 by 1,200 resolution at 60Hz; height-adjustable stands with pivoting capability; viewing angles as wide as 88 degrees; NaViSet software that lets users adjust settings with a mouse and keyboard as an alternative to the monitors’ front-panel buttons; and three video inputs — DVI-I, DVI-D, and 15-pin analog VGA. They’ll reach retailers next month.
