Both flat-panel monitors and their prices are getting thinner, according to KDS and ViewSonic. The two companies have each announced new LCD monitors with built-in stereo speakers.
KDS’ Radius Rad-9b is a 19-inch desktop LCD with 1,280 by 1,024 resolution and 0.29mm pixel pitch. The streamlined black-bezel display offers a 500:1 contrast ratio and two 2-watt speakers, and is priced at $649.
ViewSonic has added four new flat panels, available in either black or silver, with both analog and digital inputs and 1,280 by 1,024 resolution with HDTV high-scan 720p capability. The DigitalMedia VG series includes the 17-inch VG710b and VG710s ($529), 18.1-inch VG810b and VG810s ($619), and 19.1-inch VG910b and VG910s ($749), all shipping in December, and the 15-inch VG510b and VG510s ($389), which goes on sale in January.
The VG910 models offer 600:1 contrast ratios and 170-degree viewing angles, while the VG710 features 450:1 contrast and game-worthy ClearMotiv 16ms response time.
