Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 Offers Rotating LCD

Panasonic's new Lumix DMC-L10 DSLR camera offers a 10.1 megapixel resolution, face detection technology, and a free-angle, 2.5-inch, live-view LCD monitor.

Panasonic has announced its Lumix DMC-L10 DLSR digital camera, offering a 10.1 megapixel resolution, face detection technology, and an impressive 2.5-inch live view LCD monitor which can rotate 180 ° left and right and 270° fowards and back to assist with both high and low-angle shots. The L10’s face detection system can handle correcting exposure and focus for up to 15 faces in a single frame, and offers optical image stabilization to prevent image blurring from camera motion and shaky hands.

The L10 is based on Panasonic’s Venus Engine III image processor, designed to maximize the performance of the Leica D lens and Live MOS sensor. The L10 offers ISO sensitivity down to 1600, stores images to SD or SDHC memory cards, offers USB 2.0 and NTSC/PAL output, and PictBridge printing. The L10 only offers a 1.8× optical zoom, but of course the whole point of a DSLR is being able to use interchangeable lenses, some of which could offer mammoth zoom potential. To assist with that notion, Panasonic has equipped the L10 with a SuperSonic Wave Filter system which uses vibration to shake dust off the camera’s sensor. The L10 provides quick access to a variety of modes, including Auto mode, each P/A/S/M mode, five common scene modes, and one custom user mode. The L10 also sports Film modes which mimic the behavior of analog film, and advanced scene modes which enable users to refine and enhance standard scene modes: for instance, a Sports mode can be configured for indoor or outdoor shooting.

"Panasonic’s advanced digital imaging technologies, including Optical Image Stabilization and Intelligent ISO control settings, are helping Lumix compact digital cameras make a name for themselves in this industry," said Alex Fried, national marketing manager for imaging at Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company, in a release. "Now, we expand our SLR line with the LUMIX DMC-L10, which is especially designed for the consumer who is familiar with compact digital cameras, but also wants to further experience the enjoyment of digital SLR photography."

Expect to see the Lumix DMC-L10 in October at a suggested retail price of $1,299.95.
