Pentax, DivX Release First DivX Camera

The Pentax Optio S6, the first certified DivX digital camera on the market, sports a six megapixel CCD sensor and 2.5" color LCD, among other features.

Digital camera manufacturer Pentax and video codec company DivX today announced the availability of a new camera which uses the latter’s video technology for natively capturing video. The Optio S6 is priced at just under $350.

The Pentax Optio S6, which has a six megapixel CCD sensor and sports a 2.5” color LCD, is the first digital camera to be certified by DivX for video recording and encoding. It can store over an hour of DivX video in its 23MB of built-in memory.

Other features of the Optio S6 include a slim aluminum alloy exterior which measures 3.4” x 2.1” x 0.7” inches, a 3x optical lens and an approximate 0.01 second shutter release lag time.

“As the first DivX Certified digital camera in the global marketplace, the Pentax Optio S6 represents a true milestone; a powerful and elegant device that will let users capture digital content directly in the high-quality, highly compressed DivX format in the most convenient manner possible,” said Kevin Hell, Chief Operating Officer at DivX, Inc. “By achieving DivX Encoder Certification for their device, Pentax is providing real value for their users, eliminating the need to transfer large, bulky files to a computer and ensuring compatibility with one of the most popular and widely used digital media formats on the market.”
