Make sure to check out our full Lytro Camera review.
Lytro has announced its long-awaited digital camera. It’s nothing like we’ve ever seen before, inside and out. The Lytro packs its light-field technology into a thin, rectangular tube made of ultra-light anodized aluminum structural skin and a rubberized grip. Inside, you’ve got Lytro’s patent-pending light field sensor and light field engine, an 8x optical zoom lens, f2.0 aperture, and a system that capture 11 “megarays.”
Lytro will easily fit in your hand and weighs in at a measly 7.55-ounces—which means it also sports a relatively tiny back-lit LCD touchscreen display (1.46-inches).
It comes in red hot, electric blue, and graphite. Check out the new design above, it’s definitely unexpected. What are your thoughts on the revolutionary new camera?
The fact that it has a 2.0 aperture, will allow for some really great lowlight images without having to use flash… SIGN ME UP! It also looks like it will catch a lot of attention just by the unique design. Very cool.
I really am confused… What does this all mean? Other than the fact that you can shoot now and focus on what you want to later… I am a bit confused as to how this is “revolutionary”.
Well it’s the first plenoptic camera to ever be released commercially, and this sort of technology has never been in consumer hands before. It’s also going to mean your startup to capture time is non-existent, which could have a pretty interesting effect on how people take pictures.
yeah? I hate having to wait for my camera to turn on in order to get a moment shot… usually the moment passes by the time the camera turns on! lol
Well this is certainly revolutionary. Awesome design. Way to be innovative, Lytro!
I want one!!!
So how do pictures look? And will it record video?
I’ve been pretty pleasantly surprised by the photos, and the professional photographers who tested them had almost nothing but good things to say. Doesn’t appear to record video.
So its just a tube camera that comes in various colors? What’s the advantage of it?

“So its just a tube camera that comes in various colors? What’s the advantage of it?”
Exactly Ian.
It will match your lipstick Greg?
This is for sure on my x-mas wish list, the tech behind this camera looks amazing. I’m a little surprised they were able to get the price down to $399 for the first camera. I want me a camera tube!
