Polaroid has sent out a teaser image for a product it plans to reveal at CES. It appears to be a next generation instant printing camera.

Polaroid is up to something, but we don’t know what it is…yet. Today, the camera maker sent out invitations to many media publications that included little more than a cryptic image hinting at a new device it will be showing at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. The image, which only says “Grey Revealed,” is below.

Some have speculated that the new product could mark the return of instant-printing cameras from Polaroid. The company unsuccessfully tried to reintroduce printing cameras in 2008-2009 with the Pogo, but ran into money issues and was eventually bought up by PLC Holdings. The Pogo looked much more like a standard compact digital camera, while this image resembles classic Polaroids.

If demand for a good printing camera still exists, Polaroid may make a comeback. Like many camera makers who built a business on selling film, its business has suffered since the takeover of the digital camera.

Engadget brightened the image, which reveals a camera with a slot at the bottom, presumably for printing pictures.

What do you think? Are you ready to buy a digital camera that prints pictures? If the price is right, I might take a look. We’ll find out more when Polaroid presents at CES on Jan. 6, 2011.

  4. Pulpito at 7:17am 25th December 2010 Wowwww i've been waiting for this for so long. The return of the Polaroid picture phenomenon! I agree with Simone, I also hope whatever they put out is CHEAP and available in a wide range of tacky, 90s colours for those of us who are nostalgic. They should also think about making film cheaper / more in a pack. Those 10 print refills ran out so fast. Either way I am SO excited.
  5. Simone at 9:26am 23rd December 2010 I would love if Polaroid makes a digital camera that prints square like they used to!
