Samsung two-sided color laser printer

Samsung America says its first color laser printer, the CLP-500, will offer the fastest speed, quietest operation, and best value in its class when it ships later this year.

Priced at $699, the Samsung can print 20 black or 5 color pages per minute — a step up from 16/4-ppm color lasers — with a NO NOIS (Non-Orbiting Noiseless Optic Imaging System) engine that uses a larger imaging drum and fixed black, cyan, magenta, and yellow toner cartridges instead of a rotating cartridge carousel for fewer moving parts and quieter printing. An automatic duplex unit for double-sided printing is standard, as are USB 2.0 and parallel ports (Ethernet and wireless networking adapters will be optional) and 64MB of memory expandable to 192MB.

The 1,200-dpi class (enhanced 600 dpi engine) printer comes with a 250-sheet paper cassette plus a 100-sheet multipurpose tray; a second, 500-sheet cassette is optional. Samsung says the CLP-500’s black and color toner cartridges should last for 7,000 and 5,000 pages, respectively, with the drum rated for 12,500 color prints and a monthly duty cycle of up to 35,000 pages.
