Sony adds to camera lineup with new 3D and panorama-capable handhelds

sony 3d camWe got hands on today with some of Sony’s new camera lineup, and the company is largely focusing its new releases on 3D content. Given the electronic giant’s continued focus on 3D entertainment and content at this year’s CES, it’s not at all a surprise its popular Cyber-shot series now includes 3D capability.

The compact point-and-shoot cameras continue to hit all price points, ranging from $110 to $380. The devices are still generally durable and include the standard built-in features like HD movie capabilities and image stabilization. As for updates, most of the lineup will come with 3D stills, and all will include some panorama mode options, something landscape and nature photographers will appreciate in a point and shoot.

We got a hands-on look at the Cyber-shot DSC-WX10, which will be available in black this March for approximately $280. The camera has 16.2-megapixel resolution and Sony’s Exmor R CMOS sensors, which improves the device’s performance in low-light settings (its backlight correction HDR makes sure to eliminate noise in dark environments as well). It includes the 3D update as well as a 3D Sweep Panorama option. We’re seeing quite a few electronics companies marketing the idea of convincing consumers to create their own 3D content to view on 3D TVs, possibly in response to producers wavering interest in the expensive medium. Check out the video below for a quick look at the camera in action.
