Sony is not messing around when it comes to the advancement of 3D. It is a format that the company believes so much in that it continues to advance the field in new ways that would have seemed nearly impossible a few years ago, but are threatening to become the norm now. The Sony 3D TVs have been around for a bit now, the PlayStation 3 has recently begun the push to 3D with a new firmware patch and several 3D games on the way, and now Sony has introduced two new 3D digital cameras to the market, and both share the title of the smallest in the world.
The two new Cyber-shot digital still cameras, the DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5, will be able to capture both 3D and 2D images using a single lens using a sweeping motion. Both models will also offer 3D panoramas. The camera uses a high-speed burst of frames that stitches the photos together to create the panorama. Once stored the images can be viewed in 3D on any compatible 3D system.
The DSC-TX9 features 3.5-inch 921K LCD touchscreen, while the DSC-WX5 offers a 2.8-inch LCD screen. Both models will feature 12.2 megapixel cameras that can also record HD quality video.
Both cameras will be available in September. The Tx9 will cost about $400, while the WX5 will run about $300

The best (cheapest, easiest, highest quality) way is to print your 3D pictures as Side-by-Side photos (also called "Parallel" Format) and view them in Full Color with a 3Dphotoscope.
You can print your 3D photos the same way you do your regular photos (inkjet prints not recommended) and you don't have any weird color shifts like the old red/blue 3D images.
You can check out a short video on their website: http://www.3Dphotoscope.com
i JUST HEARD ABOUT the 3D cameras at the New York electronics show and they said the Sony D point & shoot will be available in September. The one I saw and I don't remember the model number said it would be $220,
please send to me all about information to the camera 3 d
thanks
I've been considering either buying a 3-D TV set up or a 3-D computer set-up but don't want to invest too much ($$$) until things are more standardized so instead I just use a handheld "stereoscope".
Another cool way to view your 3-D images is with 3D Prism Glasses… they don't magnify the image and can only be used with "parallel" (Left/Right Side-by-Side) content but they work on any screen and are a great little gift for around $25 on Amazon. (Plus your arm doesn't get tired holding them up in the same way you have to with a stereoscope).
The oteh neat thing I like about them is that can even be used to view 3-D printed pictures (in addition to digital pictures and videos)!
Does anyone know yet where we can get these 3D prints made or if there is something for our computers we can get to print or even view these photo's in 3D?
Check Fuji website, they have a service to print 3d on regular print still paper for about $5.99 or $ 6.99 each. I have a new Fuji 3W dual lense 3D camera. I don't know if the Sony Software 3D will print out or now? They don't capture a physical 3D, it is done thru software on the computer as I understand it.Gator
Taking pictures with a 3D camera will show pictures in 3D in the rear view screen but will only print them out in 2D
However if the camera is connected to a 3D TV you can see 3D pictures (or movies ) if you took them that way.
Actually the 2D pictures do show some depth to them better than many point and shoots.
I would imagine that there will be special paper to print out 3D pictures that look 3D but that is some time down the road, I had a 3D throwaway camera once a long time ago and after they were developed they did look like 3D photos
so the ability is out there.
Yeah, Sony's cameras are very innovative. I recently saw a Sony camera which can take panoramic shots by sweeping the camera across a landscape. The camera then stitches it together for a high resolution panoramic.
This is exactly what the digital camera market needs, an actual real new feature. You can already see that digital cameras have fallen to rock bottom prices because simply upgrading the same old more megapixels is pointless.
Sony always is one step ahead of the game–especially with their digital point and shoots. I used to sell cameras, and I have yet to find one that takes as good a picture as Sony. Canon is a close second, but they're not quite there yet. I'm interested to play around with this new 3D camera and see what it's all about.
Does anyone know if this camera will be part of that whole 10% off they do for college students? I'm thinking about picking one up if it is: http://studentrate.com/studentrate/suffolk/get-su…
