Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada revealed the first details for Tekken 7, the first numbered entry in the franchise since 2007, during a panel at 2014’s Comic Con International in San Diego. He also showed off an extended trailer of the game that you can check out above.
The impressive three-minute trailer promises to bring an end to the Mishima clan saga. The Mishimas are the first family of the Tekken universe, with patriarch Heihachi often seen as an anti-hero who drives a great deal of the plot in the series. Polygon reports that the game will answer many of the lingering questions from earlier games in the series, including why Heihachi is trying to kill his grandson, and why Heihachi threw his own son, Kazuya, off a cliff (into a volcano!).
There was very little information on gameplay at the Comic Con panel, with Harada saying “we’re still formulating the basic gameplay systems and polishing them.” What is known is the series will feature one-on-one battles, unlike the team battles seen in the Tekken Tag series, and that character design will be handled by seven guest artists, including Yusuke Kozaki, who did art for Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Mari Shimazaki of Bayonetta fame.
