Extended Warranties on Electronics

Today’s the day: You’re headed down to the local big-box-electronics retailer to pick up that new shiny HDTV. As you are heading to the checkout lanes, you’re approached by a sales-rep offering extended warranties for your new TV.
Are extended warranties worth it? We pose this question to one of the experts at ConsumerReports.com and get the scoop from electronics editor at Consumer Reports, Paul Reynolds. Paul also reveals how people can get stores to lower their prices on consumer tech, so we can afford that tempting warranty—and if necessary, return the warranty and keep the savings on the item you “wheeled and dealed.”

  2. TechFreak at 10:07am 25th October 2009 I think people need to do research to find out what type of products makes sense for a warranty. I could see a laptop making sense, but not a washer or dryer, or TV for example. Do extended warranties still cover laptop batteries? I know they used to. If so, that would make sense as laptop batteries can be expensive.
