“CES brings together the world’s most innovative tech companies, large and small,” said Jeremy Kaplan, Editor-in-Chief of Digital Trends. “There’s nothing new under the sun, the saying goes, but I disagree. Last year’s CES saw an explosion of new products and even new categories, and the wealth of ideas highlighted on our site every day shows there’s plenty of innovation yet to come. Our Top Tech of CES awards give us a chance to sort through it all and bring you the best of the bunch.”

Digital Trends will announce winners at CES on Thursday, January 7. As the official Digital Home media partner at CES for the third year in a row, Digital Trends editors and writers will be on site delivering breaking news of the hottest and most innovative electronics and gadgets arriving in 2015 — and highlight the smart appliances and platforms that have so captured the public’s attention.

To be considered for Digital Trends’ Top Tech of CES awards, products must be aimed at consumers (not businesses) and make their formal debut at CES 2016, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nev., from Jan. 6 – 9. Products will be judged on use of innovative technology and their ability to enhance people’s lives in new ways. Multiple entries will be accepted, and all embargoes and NDAs will be honored. 5 TV trends coming out of CES 2021
TCL Mini LED

With CES 2021 beginning to wind down and all major TV announcements now in the rearview mirror, it makes sense to take a step back and look at where new TVs are now and where they will be headed in the future. Here are five trends that came out of this year's virtual tech show.
TVs are getting bigger
NPD reports TV screens in American homes have been seeing steady increases over the past few years, with 15% of TV sales going to TVs 60-inches and larger. TV makers have noticed, and are introducing more large-screen TV options each year. This year, even I was surprised to see how many big-screen introductions were made.

Samsung introduced a micro-LED TV lineup with 88-, 99-, and 110-inch models, while LG's Z1 OLED starts at 77 inches and also comes in an 88-inch variant. Sony's enticing Bravia X90J line ranges from 55 inches to 100 inches, and lest you think the big stuff is reserved for the high-end, TCL introduced three 85-inch models coming this year, one of which sits in the company's historically super-affordable 4-Series lineup.

A year like none other deserved a gadget show like none other, and CES 2021 delivered. The first all-digital show in the 55-year history of CES arrived as a necessary measure to keep attendees safe amid COVID, leaving the entire industry to experience via webcam what once occupied a convention center the size of a small city. It was enough to make us pine for the days when all we had to complain about were crusty press lunches and getting smacked with selfie sticks.

But it wasn’t all bad! While we missed the electricity of the live events, the camaraderie of coworkers, and the delight of meeting new people on buses, CES 2021 proved that the technology industry is uniquely suited to carry on in an all-digital environment. These are the companies that invented half the tools, after all. Press conferences went off without a hitch, companies shipped us prototypes to play with, and Digital Trends' unique CES Experience Center made it possible to virtually come together as an editorial team and share our impressions with you, even from afar.

Thanks to several vaccines developed at mind-bending speed from our nation’s brightest scientists, there is at least a road map to the fight against COVID-19, which has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. But let’s be clear: It’s going to be a battle, and while the vaccine is rolled out and doctors and caregivers continue fighting, we must do everything we can to reduce the spread and limit the number of infections.
