Nice machine; be sure to get an external optical drive

I have been using one of these for a year now. Very happy with the computer part of the machine and performance. I use it for internet stuff, lots of music, some movies, and word processing.
Now let’s talk about the turkey internal optical drive. One day it ate second disc of a two disc music burn and the disc would not come out. Tried all the fancy hold these buttons down while holding your tung like this and squeezing the upper right corner etc. recommendations from the chat rooms. Only made ejecting noise but stayed in the drive for two months until we used drastic surgery.
My old Mac SE internal floppy drive works fine after fifteen years!
This shouldn’t be a big deal because one can just push the manual disc eject hole and out comes the disc right? Nope. No manual eject at all on the new Macs! So off you will go to the Mac store to get your disc back. On Sunday? What if it is a very important disc for work?
I don’t use the internal drive at all now; only the external drive for this reason.

This was a good review – very informative for average people without gushing too much technical stuff. However, I would like to submit a correction. I’ve been doing some looking into it, and I don’t believe a 16x slot-loading, notebook DVD burner exists. This is the form factor of optical drive the iMac uses. I imagine the reason such a drive doesn’t exist is that the vibration from such a faster spinning drive might be more likely to do harm to the comparatively delicate components inside a notebook or iMac computer. Other than this one item, it was a great review and I’m going to go read the reviews of the other Macs you’ve done. Thanks. =)
