I’ve had my blue 4GB since the month after they came out, and cannot complain one bit! If they still made them, I’d reccomend them to anyone! I’ve dropped, threw, and fell on it so many times and not even a scratch!

I had to send my Ipod mini back to have the battery replaced after 8 months non heavy use. How often do modern electronic devices breakdown??? Until I had an Ipod I would say they never breakdown. Now 18 months after purchase it needs a second replacement battery!!! Nice idea, rubbish quality. I have never been disaponted in a product as much as this ipod.

The battery life is very poor. I will never again buy anything from apple bacause everything they make seems to cause problems. I personally would like my ipod mini refunded as the quality of the item is ridiculous.

Okay, so the Ipod mini has a majorly cruddy battery. I love iTunes but dislike the mini. I’ll admit it is superior to other mP3s but sill, i want a toy that doesnt have so many technical difficulties.

Being the type of (in certain areas of technology) Technologically ignorant person that I am (I switched over from a CD walkman), the iPod mini offered superior battery life and for once I could laugh at my older brother’s mp3 player!

As a comment to the mini/nano wars, although the nano is technologically superior (on the terms of color screen, function etc.), the mini, for one, has a larger and therefore easier to use click wheel. Two, the mini is slightly heavier, allowing a person to remember that they have it one their persons.

Today I went to listen to my mini (got it summer of 2005) and it wouldn’t play any of my purchased songs. It would just skip over them until it got to a song that is from a CD. I plugged the mini into my computer and it updated and now will play them. Anyone have any idea why it did this???

  13. Mini = My best friend
    Shawn

    By: Shawn
    January 31, 2006 @ 6:01 PM

I have a pink mini. It is the final ipod in a full circle i have traveled within the ipod family. My first was the 3rd gen, it was the hottest thing I had ever seen, then I had the 4th gen 20 gig, then I had the green mini, then the black nano.

I sold each one to get the next one and I must say I am so happy to have found another mini. tehy are all fine, its just for my hectic lifestyle the mini wins hands down. Its tough (metal) colorful (pink) and functional. The nano is too small for me and the color screen is cool, but I dont really need it.

So, after all the buying, selling, and trading I had to do I ended up finally realizing the best ipod for me is the little pink one they call mini.

Uhh well i havent even had mine for a year…and it already broke!! I full recharge and then it works for about 20 min and then it says there is no battery power left! My sister has the same one and hers no longer works either and also my sisters friends broke! So obviously they did something to make them stop working after awhile! I don’t want to send it in to get fixed because it is just as much money to get fixed as it is to buy a new one! They don’t even have them anymore anyways! Did anyone else have this problem?? or does anybody know if the ipod nano does this either! cause i really loved my ipod! and i dont think i would like any other mp3 player!

    January 5, 2006 @ 2:02 PM

Apple made the biggest mistake in discontinuing the Ipod Mini. I have a blue 4G one and I love it. All of my friends are complaining about the Nano. It is just too thin and is not as cute as the Mini. Plus, it cost just as much money, while holding less music (only offered in 2G and 4G). That’s a rip-off!

Apple, give the consumers what they want, “BRING THE IPOD MINI BACK!!!!”

    January 3, 2006 @ 3:50 PM

I personally like the IPod Mini MUCH more than the Nano. Sure, the Nano is smaller, but it’s more expensive (2GB for a Nano are $199, while a Mini is 4GB for $199) and the color screen is certainly not worth the price. Why would you care whether it’s a color screen or not? It only wastes the battery. The size on the Mini is more practical than a Nano. It’s small enough to fit pretty much in any pocket, but big enough to not lose it anywhere. The bright colors are great , too. But, my favorite feature, is that’s the “outer shell” is made of metal. You can sit on it, step on it, drop it, throw it… whatever! It will not break. I garantee it.

I think it’s great.Holds all my tunes and sounds and looks really good. And surprisingly the battery lasts at least the full 8hrs advertised.

I really think the apple iPod mini’s are worth the $200 price and that apple made a mistake by discontinuing them. So many people want them, and today I ordered a silver iPod mini off of ebay and apple could make much more money by restocking them. All my friends have them and it is incredibly easy to upload songs onto them and to use the high capacity storage. I’m only worried about the battery, I hope it can take lots of use.

I have a mini and love. My sister has a Nano and she loves it too. There is no reason to knock either model. They are both great. It’s just what you prefer. By the way, the color screen is on the nano because it also stores photos and they wouldn’t look very good on the non color screen. Wouldn’t you agree?

I bought my iPod mini with my own money and I’m glad I did it is by far my favourite thing. I neer get tired of it and it is always with me. The sound quality is awesome and I can fit all my music on it. They are soo much better than the Nano, which is way too small and it looks so weird (the click wheel is so tiny!). I agree, who needs a colour screen when you have such great sound quality and all your music in a colourful little cute Mini!

    October 2, 2005 @ 8:35 PM

I bought my mini to not only play my music, but also to serve as a small USB/Firewire hard drive. With a 4GB hdd, it easily holds enough music to last until your next oppoortunity to update, and still hold any important documents that you may want to carry around, such as a calendar, address book, shopping list and other notes (which can all be viewed on the iPod itself). I have been through several mp3 players in the past, but the iPod is here to stay.

No, you do not need to use music downloaded from Apple’s iTunes for the iPod, however, you must use iTunes to load the music to the iPod. Not too bad, and I personally prefer iTunes over WMP anyhow.

I think that the mini is great but I cant listen to all my Music Because the battery life is not good. WHat IM going to do is send mine in for an 18 Hr battery (pretend it needs replacing). What they do is give you a new ipod. Another thing that could be done is having a color screen like the New ipods but still have that 18hr battery life. 1 more thing i must mention The sound is great if you get the sony headphones that Wrap around your ear and the buds go into your ear. I also think that if they would make it like $150 or $170 they would get more buyers Because it’s over priced!

My brother Luke received a 20GB iPod for his 18th birthday and he was always showing it off and going on about how good it is. I really wanted one too until I saw the beautifully cute little mini. I definitely wanted pink and was thrilled when I got a 6GB one and I’m still pleased with it now. I have 1237 songs on it so far and am still buying. I’m getting money for my 16th b-day next month and I’m gonna be spending some of it on songs for my iPod for sure! It is so pretty and the sound quality is great. The battery does suck and it was very expensive but well worth it. I take mine EVERYWHERE and am rarely seen without it. The only other con is that it has made me much more anti-social… =P

I was thrilled to finally get an iPod mini for my 15th birthday (a pink one!) and although I found iTunes annoying at first (I am not very technology-friendly) it is easier to use than anything. I haven’t even nearly filled up the iPod yet and have the 6GB model, but I’m sure I’ll get there. My friend has the 20GB model and says the battery life is great, but the iPod mini battery is certainly below average. Still, it is dead cute and you can simply shove it in you pocket when you go out. I would definitely recommend the iPod mini!

    June 25, 2005 @ 6:01 PM

I have tried several mp3 players, including iPod, Napster, and iRiver. I found the best one to be iRiver H-120. The problem with iPod is it does not have drag and drop, and it is too copyright-friendly. You cannot add music from other computers to your collection. All you could do with the iPod is erase all of your music, and copy all of the music from the other computer. The iPod did not play wma files either, which for me was a big problem, because most of my music collection is in wma format. While I like Apple because they make good reliable computers, I think the iPod is less convienient than other mp3 players. I will admit the iPod is prettier, and thinner; but it was more important to me personally that I can drag and drop music, and copy selective music from other peoples’ computers.

Perfect size and great sound quality! I’ve had it for 8 months and, believe me, the battery DOES last for 8 hours (under continuous play). I’ve tested this several times because I was convinced that the battery life was less than that. Every time you skip to the end of a song, you kill a little bit of the battery because the hard drive has to run more frequently. I’ll probably upgrade to the 6 gig model in a couple of months.

I bought mine a couple days. The good – The style is cool, sound quality is excellent and very user friendly. The bad – the battery life does’t really last up to 8 hours as advertised. The battery is not user replacable, dont’ know if Apple offers battery replacement. Can apple advise on this? My e-mail is given below

I was extremely happy with my purchase till about two days into it, then the earbuds starting getting staticky and painful to keep in my ears. I am getting replacements, but was told that I am only entitled to them this one time unless I buy the extended warranty. I figured since things are already falling apart, I better do this but it has made me a little less excited about the ipod mini. what next?

  53. By far the best mp3 player on the
    C Prowse

I bought my ipod mini not realizing it was the fashon statement that it is. It is a good thing that I didn’t know that otherwise I would have probably not bought it and missed out on a fantastic mp3 player. My wife is starting to get jealous because I am spending so much time with it. I have thousands more songs then the ipod mini can hold, but who needs more than three days of music downloaded at once. The size is great for exercising especially if you have the optional armband. Also to those who think the sound is not very good, get a life. The sound is as good as, or better then anything out there. I am a PC user so I am not touting this product because I am an Apple Head. I am giving an unbiased opinion based on the quality not the name. I could care less that it is cool to have one.

I bought an iPod Mini last wednesday and returned today, because of its poor sound quality. The sound is really clear but it lacks bass sound, and equalizing for deeper bass gives a very big sound distortion ( I have proffessional studio hearphones, and the problem is from the unit itself)

Makes you feel good the moment you open the fantastic package.
However, I now regret the small capacity. The bright screen can not be adjusted and is way too bright in the dark (battery drains…) and that battery is not good enough (8 hours max, more like 5 when actually using the thing).
Go for the 20GB anytime: much more for good money and it’s not that big, really!! Very good otherwise.

  62. Sound/features/practicality/size
    Dave Hart

    By: Dave Hart
    August 6, 2004 @ 5:01 PM

I received mine a week ago. First thought was wow! after burning my entire collection i uploaded to the ipod mini and started to listen.

I encoded at 192 and 224 AAC. Sound quality is excellent. Lossless is even better. The stock phones are ok – you would expect better quality cans for the price u are dishing out and they dont live up to the praise from apples site. I use a pair of etymotics er4p to complement my mini.

Ive had 1 non repsonses from the mini in which i had to reset it (but thats no prob since it takes 5secs and a reset doesnt delete ur hdd.

With regards to style – yes it is probably the best looking mp3 player on the market in my opinion. BUT that was not why i bought it. For me and im sure many others the practicality of having a small mp3 player thats near the size of a small flash player but with up to 100 albums on it is more than practical. It slides into your pocket and remains unoticeable.

The interface is far superior than Creatives Zen and Dell Jukebox IMO.

itunes (its software package) is far superior han musicmatch or creative media source. (albums cant be played in a chronological order on other mp3 players such as dell jb or zen. ipods do not suffer from this problem.)

Personally I have 30gbs of legally encoded music on my computer. The smaller hard drive than standard ipod does not deter me. Best to get a gargantuan hdd for ur pc = better gb for ur buck as they say :) itunes clever Smart Playlist feature automatically syncs my playlists upon docking (e.g all rated 5 star songs, most recent, most played, hardly played etc) I can also personally choose what albums/playlists im in the mood to listen to and presto its in a nice neat small package.

For people who believe u need to have ur entire collection on ur mp3 player is rediculous. (unless u are away fropm your house/pc for prolonged periods of time. 4 gigs can last “3 days or weekend” and if im bored of my music i just sync and choose :)

The sheer size /sound quality/size and practility of functions make the ipod mini a perfect mp3 player – for now anyway.

i couldn’t love it anymore. Its got more style than anything you’ll ever see,and its well worth the price. personally, i would never even have close to one thousand songs, so i don’t have to worry about the storage.

  64. jBelkin has less memory than a mini
    Fluidity.

    By: Fluidity.
    July 28, 2004 @ 10:36 AM

Umm Jbelkin’s “review” is possibly the most ill informed report I’ve seen in a while. Apple lossles vs ogg is not the same thing at all, Apple lossless is up against flac, AAC is up against ogg (they are both lossy). The sound quality on all these players is good, unless you have expernsive hadphones you probably won’t be able to tell much difference. I just think you’d be mad to pay almost as mucha s a 20 gig ipod for 4 gigs just so save a few mm. iPod owners aren’t all just buying it for style where as I think most mini owners are, I know some people will be happy with 4 gig and then I guess fair enough but for most people I’d avoid the mini and go for the full size version. If you need ogg get an iriver or a rio karma.

Lastly, when you buy the thing, don’t feel so damn insecure, they are all amzing items, being able to carry that much music in your pocket is an incredible achievement and any of them (Apart from a godot :-P) will probably make you more than happy as long as it doesn’t break on you!

    July 27, 2004 @ 8:59 AM

You forgot one sound format – the mini ipod also supports an Apple lossless format so OGG is not necessary. OGG is good for live recordings but not much more use.

As for the sound quality, I know since you shelled out for an iRiver and EVERYBODY else is buying an ipod, you have to defend your purchase but dude, you should stop ripping at 96kpbs – the problem is your equipment and your CD’s and NOT the ipod:

It’s nice… but useless! Where’s the Ogg Vorbis support? C’mon! A portable player should PLAY the most formats.
Another bad point is the internal battery. It should be user replaceable. If I spend so much in just 4 GB of storage I want it to be useful and to last a long time… Shame on Apple. :-(

Like its big brother, the mini iPod is nicely desinged and very easy to use. Unfortunatly it also suffers from the poor sound quality of the bigger model. I really do not understand why Apple isn’t doing anything about this problem. If you value good sound quality you should consider a unit from iRiver. But don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself.
