Best Card Ever
By: Majors Tyrone
December 14, 2007 @ 11:13 AM16pam12>
I have had my 9800 pro since 2003 and I must admit it has been the best card I have ever owned. Graphics are unparallel, but I have to deal with a lot of buggy issues through the TV aspect of it. It has gotten better with the newer drivers, but not completely bug free. But all-in-all I am very pleased. I will now be using my 9800 Pro with my 65 inch DLP so I am very happy. Thanks again ATI.

Good card but to many bugs

I drove myself nuts with this card. It’s a good card but I stopped using it for TV and just use it for gaming. To many bugs even with the latest drivers.

This is my 3rd AIW card. I keep thinking that the new versions and drivers will finally stop it from crashing. After missing the French Open this morning because it crashed while it was recording I am finally resigned to selling the card and looking into something that works.

THe problem is does not seem to able to output the edited video to vcr . There is no problem capturing or editing input from vcr .it gives a picture of desktop as the recorded output
Their idea of customer service is disgusting . Spent 1.5 hrs at my expense for less than 10 minutes of talk time tech . their view was the problem was at my end.
They do have email support for registered users but is crap. as it logs out after a few minutes After you finisn the email, you cpoy & paste the message agter relogging in.
Still waiting
It is true that card does not support satellite .

Great Video Card

I have had my 9800 AIW for over a year now, and I must say it has served me well. Going head-to-head against a GeForce 5950 Ultra it would almost always be a step behind, but with the newest (6.14.10.6505) drivers it is running without a hitch – besting my brother-in-law’s 5950 in 3DMark 05 tests. I have a had a few cards (ATI and Nvidia), and I must say this is my favorite.

Excellent all around performer

I don’t normally post but feel compelled to jump in….
The 9800 Pro is my third AIW and I could not be happier. Performance is excellent including perfect video capture. As mentioned by others, it is *very* important as clearly outlined in the documentation to uninstall any existing video drivers. While AIW has had many flaky drivers the latest Catalyst drivers and MMC software totally rocks.
To top it off, with the introduction of the X800 version you can pick up an AIW 9800 Pro for about $200 bucks if you shop around (newegg.com) and that is reall tough to beat.

Remember people who are happy are always less likly to post comments. It is the people who are pissed off that will always fill reviews. Almost all issues are related to hardware other then the video card.

Got the card on an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe and it absolutely ROCKS. I upgraded from a Geforce 5700 256 and there is no comparison (obviously with 8x AGP).
Pricey? Yes but for what it does, I’m happy with my purchase.

I bet all of you with problems had horrible motherboards. I used to have problems with my sound, but that was caused by my crappy motherboard. If you have problems, its called troubleshooting. Ask around. If the support sucks, it’s because there are so many people like you filling up their mailboxes asking about dumb things which can be so easy to fix. This card is great and definitely worth the money.

I can’t believe that half the reviews on this site for this card are bad! What are you people smoking?? Did you bother to un-install you previous video card drivers before installing the ATI drivers? I bet it’s either that and/or your version of windows has issues. If you got a clean Hard Drive and did a clean install I’m sure it would solve 99.99% of the issues above.
I love playing BF1942:Desert Combat on this card with full details on and no slow down! And being able to watch TV while surfing the internet on your cable modem (using a coax cable splitter) is awesome!

Regrettably ATI has lousy support, its drivers do not load all the required elements and soon after you start using for gamming or simply watching TV the you get error messages.
It is hard to believe that ATI to this date still has not learned that the customer is first and that support is A MUST.

Until ATI makes a committment to write drivers that work, Look elsewhere. Support is horrible and is all pay as you go. Under Windows 2000 and XP the TV consistently locks the whole computer and requires a hard power down to fix. The drivers are updated almost every month and each iteration introduces a whole new set of problems, and of course ATI will define this as a new issue. Plunk down another $20. Don’t bother requesting support on their web site, they do not respond. Total Garbage.

No digital cable, drivers decrepit
By: Disgruntle
March 15, 2004 @ 10:28 PM39ppm3>
NO DIGITAL CABLE! I repeat you cannot receive digital sattelite or cable. This thing cannot deliver a station number over 125. Unbelievable ,considering how long digital cable and sattelite have been available, that they are still selling this analog tuner piece of crap with no warning to their customers. I had to surf newsgroups on the web to discover this fatal flaw was not my oversight but was instead ATI selling outdated merchandise. This “latest” ATI card is already obsolete, straight out of the box. You will not be able to schedule recordings or use the Gemstar+ program guide if you have digital sat/cable. In other words, you must start every recording manually, absolutely no automation is possible, unless you remember to leave your cable/sat on the exact channel you intend to record. You will not be able to use the ATI TV interface or remote to change channels with a digital setup. And the drivers and software are still unstable. The drivers and apps crash and hang and do not deliver functionality as promised. The good qualities of this card are its gaming performance and its ability to do video capture. But none of the slick interfaces can be used with digital sat/cable TV. What a letdown and a ripoff. I have been buying ATI cards for years now and I can’t believe the software is still so shabby, despite all their claims to the contrary. If they were going to short-change everybody by putting an archaic analog tuner in this thing, the very least they could have done is provide one of those infra-red USB transmitters to adhere to the front of your cable or sattelite unit. That way at least you could change channels on your cable or satellite box with their software and remote and schedule recordings. I bought this card with high hopes only to be stunned by how short sighted and behind the tech curve ATI is by not offering a digital version of this card. If you have digital sattelite or cable, this is not the solution for you. Digital cable/sat will be the norm in the near future, and this thing will be no better than a paperweight. Shame on you ATI, obviously you need competition in the mutimedia card sector, because you guys just don’t get it.

It IS the fastest all in one

The guy who posted above must not have an optimized Windows system or an 8X AGP compatible motherboard. I upgraded from a GeforceFX 5600 and the All in wonder 9800pro is a million times fater. I do not have cable though, to the integrated tuner is worthless to me.

I bought this card because the review I read here said it was the fastest and best all in one card. Well it isnt the fastest and most of the extra functions are inadiquate.
designtechica must have a large share of ATI!
Dont waste ur money. I put my nvidia 5200 back in and it runs circles aroung the 9800 all in wonder in every aspect.
