Bought one last week for my wife who has an iPod Touch. What can I say? Sound is crystal clear and totally amazing. I tried maybe 15 other iPod sound systems and the Bose was totally awesome, beating everything else by a long way. I’m not a Bose fanboy – in fact I think their entire range is a little overpriced (a LOT overpriced in the UK). I bought one of their Lifestyle Music Systems a few years ago and sold it after a year or so only because of lack of expandability. The SoundDock suffers from the same problem BUT, if you want a superb sound with staggering depth from a small box, it’s the only way to go.

Oh, and absolutely no buzz at all anywhere!

  2. Disappointing sound and subpar build quality

This unit tries to impress with more bass than is to be expected from the size, but after a while you start noticing there’s really only one low frequency being added to whatever you play, which is annoyingly unnatural. Also the music sounds congested, there should be more dynamics to it (drums should be louder than softer parts one would assume). And yes… after some weeks I got the buzz sound… Definitely annoys the hell out of me. I don’t use the unit anymore. Now got myself a Yamaha TSX-120 instead which is night and day difference. It’s not as portable but it’s not like I carry this thing around every day. But next to the Yamaha the Bose really feels (and sounds) like crap. If Yamaha can do so much better for the same price Bose shouldn’t cost this much.

  3. Sounds Great for being portable - Fix buzzing by turning off the EQ

Just bought the portable version (has a battery) and it sounds amazing considering it can be taken around with you to the beach, etc.

I had some problems with buzzing on Bose headphones, and I was able to fix the problem by turning off all equalizer settings on the ipod.

I bought a sounddock a couple of weeks ago, as was more than happy with the sound quality. I don’t feel that the dock is over priced for what it is.. it sounds great for its size. But I also get a buzz from the speakers when the ipod is docked and charging, one of those annoying sounds you probably won’t notice in the store but as soon as you do you can’t help but hear it over everything.. Hoping that my unit is faulty and that will have a nice replacement without the buzz, if not will be returned it for B&W zeppelin

Just got my SoundDock, which I have been lusting for a while. Thought it would make the perfect addition to our baby’s new room – especially since I’ve heard it had the ability to play a very low volume. But after just one week, I’ve got the BUZZZZZZZZZZ, and will more than likely be returning it, and buying a small bookshelf stereo/CD player – and spending the extra money on my wife.

Is this norm or defect? My Bose Sounddock has a BUZZ when the Ipod is charging and also is in play mode as well. Is there a way to stop the BUZZZZZ?

I received this as a birthday girf from my mom and grandmother. At first it worked great and I was very happy with it, after a few weeks it started making a (very loud) buzzing sound when the iPod was in it, and when it was playing music. I messed around with it and found a way to temporarily stop it, but after I have had it for about a year and a half now it works like a piece of junk! The buzzing is back, everytime you touch it, the volume turns all the way down and slowly turns back up, and the sound is horrible. Very dissapointed with this product.

I will be returning this sound dock unless the squeal can be removed.

Bought the SoundDock for my daughter last Christmas. It stopped charging/working and I tried to send it in for service. After going through the inquisition with Bose rep’s, and no change in status of the Dock, they quit responding. I visited the Bose outlet and was assured I could send the Dock to ONLY reapir location, now back east. A request to BOSE for info as to where and how, again resulted in the 24 questions, let’s try this GAME. AND AGAIN, after explaining I’d already tried all that, and the Dock needs to go to SERVICE, they quit responding back with the requesteed WHERE and HOW. So buy a SoundDock and that’s the last you’ll hear from BOSE.

  10. Great for What it is

This is made for music on the go. Take your CD collection on vacation or on the porch with you on a 60 Gig iPod. No, it isn’t “audiophile quality”, and doesn’t pretend to be. It is extremely convenient and great sound for the bucks. I have a wonderful audiophile quality system in my home for critical listening.
For true music lovers, the iPod and the SoundDock are a godsend. It is wonderful sound for the investment and space requirements. For the anal retentive listener, who is hung up more on equipment than the music, just forget iPods, SoundDocks and the like and stay in your listening room.

  11. Impressive sound from a small unit.

I read all of the reviews here, and elsewhere, before deciding what to purchase, and listened to other iPod speaker systems.
Reviewers are really in two camps – the Bose is overpriced rubbish comparable to a cheap set of computer speakers camp, and the satisfied purchaser camp.
I’m clearly in the “satisfied purchaser” category.
The sounddock is expensive, and it certainly has limitations. Its size for starters makes it difficult to achieve much stereo effect due to the lack of speaker separation. It also means that it won’t shake the windows with bass.
But fair go – for the audiophiles out there – it plays MP3’s.
It doesn’t match my home stereo system, but I bought it as I work away from home for extended periods and can’t lug a huge number of CD’s around with me. If you are in a similar situation the Bose makes a good substitute for a home stereo system.
For its size it is pretty impressive and it does kill the other “portable” speaker systems. That said, it isn’t truly portable either – it is mains power only, but the system is ideal for what I purchased it for.
My advice is listen for yourself, and read the professional reviews – not someone who says that the sounddock is comparable with a cheap set of computer speakers. I can tell you that just isn’t true.

  12. Sound makes up for shortcomings

I never thought I would pay this much for an amplifier speaker but have yet to regret the investment. The sound that comes from this compact package is really unbelievable! The only shortfalls are the inability to synchronize my Ipod. I had a chance to compare just about everything out there and Bose was head and shoulders above the rest.
