I had some songs on my Zen micro, about 700.So I went back to add more songs. And everything has deleted from my Zen. But when I go inside of the information its saying there are songs on there. It’s a 2005 zenmicro 2.11.02 version. Need updated software 2007 version or something.

I bought a Zen Micro about 2 years ago. It still works but I can only listen to music without backlight and EQ for about 2 hours. I just bought a new battery half a month ago! It sometimes freezes up. It takes a long time to load a song or to rewind and fast forward. I would much rather be using itunes instead of the software compatible with this. I like the sound quality though. I would not reccomend this to anybody. It’s fun for a little while but just not worth it.

Had two Micro Zens for my teenagers. One failed with in 3 months, had it replaced and it failed again with in 6 months. Could get Creative Labs to fix it. The second one lasted about 18 months and has now died and can’t get is fixed. Kids now own a ScanDisk & Ipod which work great. Wish I didn’t waist my money with Creative Labs, won’t but their products in the future. Poor quality and lousy support.

I have had my *replacement* Zen Micro for more than a year – the first one lasted about 4 – 5 months. I had a few "freezing" issues with the original Micro I bought, so I sent it back to the COMPANY, who replaced the body for me, and even upgraded it to a 6GB from a 5 for a mere $25. Which I thought was pretty nice, all things considered. I’ve had NO problems whatsoever with the audio, and even dropping it once from about two feet onto concrete proved it’s sturdiness. This Zen is worth it.

Well I have the same problem except mine will not turn on unless it is on the charger. And even then I don’t get music, all I get is Clean up mode and reboot. I have no clue what happened. I have had a few tech support friends of my own and they suggest that I download a update of firmware, but even that said that it would remove my radio. What’s up? I should have gotten an iPOD!!!

Great While It Lasted...

December 18, 2006 @ 4:40 PM51ppm12>
I’ve had my Micro for over a year now, and when it worked, I loved it! However, I’m having the notorious ear phone jack issue; the sound is output in layers, and I am constantly trying to “reposition” my headphones to get full sound. My husband called Creative Labs for assistance, and he was told that it would cost him $22 per month for a “customer service subscription.” After reading these reviews, it seems we’d be paying Creative Labs $22 so that they could tell us there’s nothing they can (or will) do. Next brand, please…

October 10, 2006 @ 9:34 AM24pam10>
After about 1 year of problem free use, the battery life dropped to less than 1 hour, this also caused file transfer issues. Then after replacing the battery and problem free use for a few more months, the earphone jack failed. i guess all i have now is a 5 Gb usb data drive. worked well for that first year though… and the extra features (ie FM radio) were great!

I have not encountered any of the problems talked about in the review — however, I believe I have a newer version of this, and would suggest to anyone who is attempting to use MediaSource to instead use the Media Explorer, which is not a media player, but a quick, easy, and organized way to put files on your Zen Micro. All in all, extremely pleased with my 5 month old purchase.

I bought my micro in august of last year and i loved it for a while but then i started getting all of the error messages, and it wouldn’t turn off unless i took out the battery. then it fell of my bed two days ago and totally stopped working. It still turns on but no sound comes out and the screen doesn’t show anything. I was really irritated because I had to pay for it myself and now i have to buy something new

My Zen Micro lasted about a month, then one day I turned it on and received a “disk error” message. I had to send it back to Creative who still cannot replace it because they are out of stock. That was more than two months ago. Two motnhs and they can’t make a new MP3 player? A most disapponint experience.

this was the first mp3 player i got. it seemed to have many features and be the best quality compared to others(ipod)the 2nd day the screen went blurry and hard to read menus, returned and same thing happened, returned again and a week later screen froze. very disappointed!i found features easy to use and trying to find another brand with similar features but different brand. as long as it doesnt stuff up it is very good, but too problematic.

I’ve spent months defending this over the iPod. Now I wish I had an iPod. Bought it for the size and the FM transmitter. But the headphone socket has ceased working for no reason and in less than six months it is out of full warranty. I’ve been emailing the customer service people but I haven’t gotten a straight answer yet. Seems like a common occurence and a serious design flaw. I’m so disappointed, I’m a poor student and I feel like I threw away $200.

November 20, 2005 @ 8:28 AM10pam11>
I bought my 5gb Zen Micro with my birthday money and was a little worried becuase i had read so many reviews saying that after a couple of months it stops working. My cousin has one and she says that its the best thing she has ever bought and has never given her any problems atall. So i went ahead and bought it. after i recieved it it was fine for the first month but then i noticed when i turned it on the creatve logo kept breaking up. i ignored it as it had no affect to anything else. then after another month i would turn it on and sometimes it would go on to the page with all my music and sometimes it would just stay on the creative logo bit. now it has given up completely after only 3 months!! and EVERYTIME i turn it on it just stays on the creative logo page. i cannot return it to amazon because there is only a 3 week returns garuntee! i am EXTREMELY disapionted and annoyed!

Design fault with headphone socket
By: Tom Moore
November 1, 2005 @ 7:22 AM34pam11>
I am most upset with the customer service experience provided by Creative in relation to successive faulty units of the Zen Micro. I have noted that Creative have not issued a product recall in relation to the faulty headphone sockets with many consumers experiencing loss of sound issues. I am concerned that Creative is not being transparent and open about this design fault. Moreover, I am concerned that my second unit was lost in the mail using a ‘track and trace’ facility which means that I no longer have a unit. I am very uspet with the treatment I have received from Creative. I would expect a full apology and compensation for time, effort, and money spent on a MP3 player which was never fit for its intended purpose due to poor build.

October 16, 2005 @ 8:56 PM40ppm10>
Great looks and more features than any Ipod. 5gigs for less than a 2gig nano was my purchasing point but also the FM tuner and voice recorder helped out. Audio quality is very nice and the volume gets very high. For a very picky headphone buyer such as myself, the headphone buds included with the player are extremely comfortable. The size is perfect and much bigger than the ipods but it is not necessarily a bad thing. . . .makes it more difficult to lose!

May 16, 2005 @ 12:37 PM35ppm5>
I’ve only had it for a couple weeks. Sounds great (for WMA/MP3 player), in fact the best of all available 4-6GB HDD based players (includin iPod). You MUST update the firmware to address the touch control sensitivity and battery issues. Othe than that, replace the POS earbuds with Etymotic ER-6, ER-6i, or equivalent and you’ll discovery the true sound capabilities of this thing. No quality issues – just a whine that there is a dearth of cool, iPod-like, accessories. The hard case/belt case/desk stand is a joke. Only really good accessory seems to the the Vaja case ($60!) or the Rhinoskin silicon case. Only downside thus far is explaining repeatedly why you don’t have an iPod.

I got my Zen Micro as a birthday present. T first as was happy boyond waords, everything seemed so perfect-the desighn, color, fast ripping of songs…But on the second day a got a problem with the jack. Appearantly it didn’t make a good connection with the headphones, so at times the sound would get real bad, or would get lost. I tried other headphones as well – no change. That is when we decided to go to the place that distributes it here in Kuwait, and ask them to fix or repare it. Can you imagine our surprise when they told us that it was misuse???!!!First of all, I’m always extremely careful with my things, especially things that are this expensive. Second, it has been used only for a day, I couldn’t have possibly missused it. And lastly, I have only listened to it while it was sitting on my desk top or on a CLEAN table, so missuse is simply out of question. However, the company told us that Creative could not replace it because it considered the damage as a missuse!I practiclyy cried when I heard that, because I was so syched about my presant and all of a suden it goes crashing down, and the company tells me that it’s my fault! For now, we left it with the manager, but he told us that he probably won’t be able to do anything at all.So now, I am looking for a way to fix it or repare, that’s why I wrote this review, so if anyone could help me, please, please, please write me on:

March 24, 2005 @ 9:38 AM04pam3>
After doing a lot of research I chose this unit despite the
few problems listed in the site reviews and some more
serious problems in the user reviews. I had orgiginally
bought one for my daughter and liked the layout so much
I went back out a week later and bought my own. I’ve only
owned it a week and already I have ripped about 90 of my
CD collection to the Zen. I use only the Creative supplied
software and have found ripping and downloading to
the unit simple and fast. I used the Auto Synchro mode.
I have had no problems with lock ups or any other problem.
I have do not know the total battery life as I’ve pretty much
charged it every night when I get home so I can download
more songs to it. The sound it excellent and I have had
no problems with keypad sensitivity. It should be noted
that I did NOT download the updated firmware as
suggested by the initial review. I figured I’d wait to see
if there were any problems first. The manual was
extremely devoid of info but the online one was fine.
So, for now it gets a 10. I’m listening to some Miles
Davis, *****es Brew as we speak and loving it! If I start
to have problems or my daughter’s does, I will update or
write a new review down the road. As of this writing though,
I give this little baby a 10 and endorse it wholeheartedly.

I have come across my fair share of problems. Not even two weeks after getting it, i had to send it in to be replaced. I removed the battery one day, and when i put it back it the screen said hardware problem. that was the end of my first micro. My new micro has a problem with shutting down – aka – it doesnt like to. Most of the time i just take the battery out to turn it off. It sucks that i spent 225 on something and it doesnt work as it should, but other than this one problem, everything else about it is great. love the microphone feature, i record lectures. also, the radio is great too.

screen dead shortly after a week
By: Bryan
March 7, 2005 @ 5:05 PM51ppm3>
I purchased two Zen Micros as Christmas presents for my two teenage daughters, sadly the started to fail just a week or two after arriving. I have both sent back under RMA warranty, but that doesn’t make up for 2 units that are dead on arrival (~2 weeks) as far as I am concerned. My hopes were that I got a rushed batch that came late after the holidays. I truly hope we get two replacement units that fare better, otherwise I am out the money for the two I purchased already.

Lucky me, not only did my micro lock up, it also has a bad click between tracks. After returning, those issues seemed to be fixed for the most part. It did lock up still but less often. The problem was , and why I am giving it a two is that my average battery life was 4.5 hours. That was unnaceptable. I’ve moved to another DAP maker and had some luck.

February 9, 2005 @ 7:41 AM44pam2>
The Micro is an excelent MP3 player and has the best features and sound quality. The cons pointed out by designtechnica no longer apply and therefore, their review should be changed. Creative has released a firware which fixes the touchpad sensitivity and the battery issues (battery now lasts 11 hours on a single charge) and the micro is now compatible with windows media player and will soon be compatible with musicmatch. the software included with the player is actually quite good (It seems that the people who reviewed the player don’t know how to use any other program except itunes). I do however agree that the earbuds are quite big although they sound really great (-1 point due to big earbuds). The extra features like radio and sincronization with outlook are brilliante. it is a much better player than the ipod mini.

So Far So Good
By: David
February 7, 2005 @ 3:33 PM38ppm2>
I just purchased the new zen micro and have been enjoying it everyday now, and having researched mp3’s for many months now, I would have to say that I am extremely happy with the choice I made. I would also like to say that it;s great that many people take the time to give their opinions about all the different products available, it is very helpful, so thanks to all of you, and for that reason I feel compelled to do the same. Well enough of that, lets get to the zen micro. I never tried the ipod, but I can’t imagine for what zen offers that it could be any better in terms of features. The recharable battery is great, especially knowing that I could get a back-up for long trips or replacing it when needed just hope the price of them come down. The ear buds that everyone mentioned about are diffenently made for elephant ears they are diffently a joke to say the least. The unit has shut down on me a couple of times but that’s because the battery is ready to die. A warning indicator would have been nice. Just remove the battery and replace it and recharge it and you will be fine. Sound quality is awesome and the quality of the product is top-notch. The FM radio works ok the signal wasn’t that good coming in but I live a bit of a distanced from any major signal. Still good enough. the touch pad is a bit sensitive but you get use to it, I like to keeep the clicker on it make it easier. I would recommend this product.

The Zen Micro’s sound quality is one of the best out there.
I found the battery life to last about 9 hours. The only problem I have with it is it seems to take a while for it to
accept key presses when first starting the unit. The Return and Menu buttons don’t seem to respond as well as the other buttons. I’m happy with it overall.

I have had my Zen since November and have experienced no problems with it. I find that it is easy to use. The battery life is pretty long . . . around 12 hours. The touchpad took about 10 minutes to get used to and mine is set to the lowest setting. I like the lock feature that prevents selections from changing due to accidental bumping.
It has superb sound and music transfers are easy. Yes, the do*****entation that it came with is seriously lacking. But that’s not a reason to downgrade this quality player. We bought another one as a gift and have recommended this player to many others.

The player is good, battery life is fine (I charge it up often anyway) and the quality is superb. However, it has locked up occassionally, and my sister also had one, dropped it on a carpet and the hard drive inside broke. Luckily, amazon have a good returns policy. Now the headphone jack in mine has gone bust and is also being returned. Good, if you’re careful with it…
